My husband & I have been twice and have loved both times! However, we live in central Indiana so we started the first time in KY and went to the middle of TN. Last year we drove the interstate to TN and came back north. We have brought home many treasures and at very good prices - there's something for everyone! Most dealers were eager to haggle over prices too! However, beware, Route 127 for miles has no lodging and what there is most is booked up. Take food and drinks. For us, the trip both times was worth the money & time as we don't take regular vacations. We love looking at other people's junk and love the thrill of finding something unique. You can stop at one place and spend a couple hours and then go for miles before finding another site. But, if you like junking for your garden, you will absolutely love this opportunity. By the way, I've been reading this site for weeks and have never posted and I just love all your garden junking ideas. You all inspire me so!

Ooh, Mariann, I couldn't imagine even running a comb through my hair with that dent in there much less all they put your head through at the salon. Just thinking of them combing out sections before they snip with the scissors is making me shudder. When I worked in a retail store years ago I had to sort some things in our stock room. The ceiling was very low, only 5ft high (I'm 5'10") and had pipes running all over it. I was always so cautious when working in there but one day I stood up in the wrong spot and hit my head on a brace holding the pipes and went out like a light. I had a dent in my head for quite some time. That was back when I used hot rollers every day to get myself ready for my day. Ouch, the memories! Your mold problems are much worse than mine. The black mold can be especially dangerous. I just found some on one of the kids volleyballs that was left out under some bushes. I need to wash that with some bleach to remove it before they start playing with it again. I'm glad you wear a mask when it is bad. That stuff just isn't good for you.

Thanks to all who responded to my post. I've been about every route with my mother's estate. With Craig's List I usually end up waiting for people that never show up. I don't live close enough to any large population centers to make it worth the trip for anyone interested in just one thing. I had one woman leave an angry message on my answering machine "I drove for two hours and I still didn't reach your town!" I have contacted estate liquidators and the consensus of opinion is that unless I have very high-end antiques (you know - Ming vases and Duncan Phyfe furniture) it would cost me more to pay them to do a sale than I could make from the sale. Most of the dealers here in upstate New York only want the very finest antiques and collectibles. Consignment shops won't take anything either because they are not selling very much right now. Everyone is griping about how bad the antiques market is. I guess I just hit it at the worst possible time. I know my mom bought most of her things, like Depression glass, in the 1970's when it was a hot item and expensive. Now you can't give it away. A few weeks ago I saw a Madrid cookie jar in the local Salvation Army for $2.99. I went back this week and it was still there! I have two pieces of Oyster and Pearl I've been trying to sell - a 14 inch sandwich plate and a divided relish. No one even looks at them. Most people that stop at my sale ask for: military and sports memorabilia, old fishing equipment, jewelry and gold and silver coins. Yeah, everyone has that laying around the house. On another note, I theorize that unless you can have a tag sale on the first or second weekend of the month, don't bother. By the time the third and last week of the month rolls around, people are starting to run short on money and not looking to blow it at a tag sale. Any opinions on this? I have moved the table behind small chair (chair is getting cream w/ black zebra throw) more central to window as suggested and I like it. What do you all think of a glass swag light in that corner sort of like this? I think I need something with some shape but not sure if I should bring a bit of dark cherry there or something colorful like an outdoor type ceramic stool that will double as a little table. I would like something interesting. I'm feeling like I'm getting closer to making the room look finished but still very stuck on lighting near sofa. Please keep the ideas coming as they are helping a lot!
