I couldn't have hoped for anything better !

Remember me thinking & posting my first "Crazy Idea " to exchange our projects with each other ? LOL It seems like so long ago ! I just have to say how amazed I am at how this evolved. I knew this was a special group . Everyone that joined the swaps have put their heart & soul into the projects ....and even went above and beyond to add special "goodies" to their exchange. I'm just speechless ... What do you think about the idea ? the exchange ? the generousity ? I'm just blown away ...

I know...it's so amazing what we all come up with eh?!!! I so cherish my treasures from here and Especially the freindships I've made....now for a good cry! (sortamental/sentamental)

I used to attend every week. Outfitted my first apartment mostly from low bids on good quality stuff. Now the closest auction house specializes in "antiques" with mostly correspondingly high prices. Many years ago, when I was working in DC, I passed a large auction house every day on my way to/from the parking lot. Often I went in one door, meandered around the floor and out another door, just to see what was there. One day, I saw a set of dishes on the floor and simply fell in love with them. Place settings for 20, incomplete: a couple saucers and cups were missing. I estimated that they might go for as much as $200, simply because of the large number of settings. Because they were to be offered at a time that I had to be at work, I asked a friend to bid for me (with a monetary limit of $500 that was more than a month's salary - I really WANTED those dishes). After the bidding closed, she came to my office, laughing and shaking her head. Crossing my fingers, I asked how much they went for. That's when she told me the opening bid had been $1000 (yep, one thousand dollars). It turned out that they were some rare and rarely available pattern, and they were yellow, an uncommon color in porcelain. The final bid was over $28,000. My SIL collects marbles, if she had attended every one of those jars would have gone home with her. Once she showed me a couple marbles (honestly, nothing special to look at) and said they were each worth $50 or more.

Pretty! And you know, this way they are all facing the camera :) That last picture will make a nice wallpaper. I once saw somebody put liveheaded blooms on a low globe-shaped evergreen, looked pretty too.

Terrene..thanks for the tactical advice, I think I may just sneak some containers into other areas of the yard where he is not likely to find them :-) My Zinnia Profusion Orange did come true from seed. This year I have seeds saved from last year's Park Profusion mix so I don't know yet whether the other Profusions also come true.. Phlox drumondii - nice choice...love it in pots where you can sink your nose into the flowers. It is kind of trailing in nature so I tend to let them ramble around the edges of pots rather than using them in the garden. Let us know how the Persian Carpet zinnia works out! I have admired that - it looks a little like a Blanket Flower which I can't seem to grow here (too damp). By the way Bear - the tropical milkweed that I grow for monarchs is Asclepias currassavica. They are easy to grow either indoors or via winter sowing. Because they're tropical in origin, you might want to hold off winter sowing them until later in the season, ie March. That's my experience, anyway.

I too wish to thank you for starting this! It is a dream of mine to someday meet the people behind the names. This forum & the exchanges has been wonderful in getting us to know each other through our art. For me, it has "pushed" me into trying many things I would never have EVER attempted! Seeing other's work is inspiring to me. Friendships are started and just keep growing. And it's fun!-Plus the anticipation is a big part of it. Not knowing what you are going to come up with and then - like a lightening bolt an idea comes to you in the middle of the night or when you least expect it. Then the search for the tesserae that will be perfect....and assembling it until it is "just right". Waiting for the special "name" comes next...and getting your precious cargo all the way across the country safe and sound. Checking in to see if it has arrived and what the reaction might be. The anticipation is the best! Plus the satisfaction in knowing you have made someone else happy. All worth it...again thank you! And can't wait to do it again!

Ah TMG!! So you're the genius who came up with the swap idea? It's a wonderful event. I missed the frypan and the bowl swap. The watering can was my first. It was also the first time I'd ever done anything 3D. Very challenging for me, but I learned from it. That's what I like about the swaps. It gets my mind to working on being more creative!
Oh, and the suspense of what the recipient will think!! So much fun!!
