Pocket door in an arched door opening..??..
Comments (10)As long as you make some type of removable panel on one side that turns the normal square opening in to the arch you might get away with it. 'Hiding' the panel is going to take some real work though. pocket doors come out by unlocking the door from one of the rollers it is hanging on, then pivoting the door on the second hanger till it cealrs the jamb on the non-pocket side. The trim on one side concealing the hangers must be removed. i have used al sorts of tricks to conceal how that trim piece is held up. The one I prefer now is to make 'keyhole' opening in the top trim piece on the upper surface, then sink screws into the track support to catch in the keyholes. You position the screws and keyholes so the piece slide the last half inch into position to be flush with the jamb on each side. Cut the paint joint to the side jambs with a knife, pull the piece away from the wall a half inch, and it drops down....See Morefrustrated with my difficult living room (pics)
Comments (52)That red ottoman is sticking out like a sore thumb..Maybe you coul have a cover made for it that would blend in with the rest of the room. Loved the lighter slipcover and the pillow on the rocker goes more with your drapes. Is that cushion white; maybe it went with the white slipcover? Do you have one to match the existing slipcover on the sofa? Seems like that would make it blend in more. My sofa is a camelback style but it is 15 years old and I recently noticed that the cushions need to be replaced with firmer foam or whatever it is that the cushions are made of. It is a Clayton Marcus sofa and I am getting tired of it and have thought about having it reupholstered and my DH thinks we could buy a new sofa by the time we have this one recovered and I don't agree. I love the shape and length of this sofa. I thought my neighbor had a new sofa and she told me it was a slipcover. It fits like a glove. She told me the name of the company that did it for her. I'm very tempted to have them to come out and see what they can do for me....See MorePocket doors between kitchen and dining room or open concept?
Comments (27)Oh, if I could do a wider opening and pocket doors between my kitchen and DR, I would. But I'm losing mine when we remodel. Like heidihausfrau, our pocket door between kitchen and DR is narrow; even narrower than hers, mine is only 27"! It's ridiculous. We're widening the doorway to 31" or 32" (can't go wider than that). We had initially planned on installing another pocket door but since the wall that currently houses the pocket door can't accommodate a door any wider than we currently have (runs into exterior wall), we would have to switch the pocket door housing to the other side of the doorway, which meant changing the location of the light switches, tearing into the stairway support wall, changing the shelving in the pantry so that it wouldn't interfere with the pocket door ... in the end, we decided to nix adding a pocket door. We're also widening the doorway between kitchen and hallway, from 29" (swing French door) to 47" (no door). We can't install double pocket doors, either one on each side or double-upped with bottom rail nor do we have room for swing doors (would block light switches, etc). At first we weren't sure about going sans doors for both entries. We used the doors between kitchen and hallway and kitchen and DR when our kids were little but we hardly ever close them now. In fact, we took the hallway/kitchen doorway off its hinges months ago to see if we would miss it and we don't. judeny: thanks for the great idea to do a hinged swing door! I had nixed going with a swing door because my DR is narrow enough as it is; I don't want a swing door eating up space (it would also have to swap sides so it would run along the wall between wall and table). But if I can do a hinged door like you did and keep it folded up against itself along the same wall the pocket door occupies now, I just might be able to install a door between kitchen and DR after all. (I wish you had pics to share with us.) Do you remember how far from the wall the door extends when it's folded against itself? TIA! AujS, don't forget to plan for where your light switches will go on the pocket door wall. I'm sure you want them close to the opening so make sure your contractor knows so that he makes sure there's room for an electrical box to house the switches....See MoreHelp! Comments (7)I totally get the OPs question... I think... lol I think what they are asking is when the pocket sliders are closed, does the pocket get full of debris... bugs, leaves, kids toys, cats, dead bodies, etc... I had the same wonderings. You never see a pic of the pocket while the doors are closed. I finally saw one in person. The pocket is on the inside. Essentially, the panel closest to the pocket has a piece on the pocket side, perpendicular to the pane that fills the “pocket hole” when they are closed. Thus no hole for stuff to get in there. Hopefully that is what the OP was looking for... lol if not, disregard this post! Ha!...See More- 16 years ago
