this is MY trash to treasure! Picture...

I made these before Christmas. I couldn't stand the vertical blinds in the family room. So, much to my DH's surprise, I ripped them down! lol and this is what I made. I was able to make 5 of them. I want to find some more white vinyl vertical blinds in garage sales to make more for my trees outside! lol what do you think? (sorry.. 1 with flash, 1 w/o! lol)

Kat, how ingenious - and how in the heck did you make fold them out of the vinyl blades? I know we did stuff like this back in grade school but long time ago.

Hi Sal. I didn't think it would work either, as they have a slight curvature, but they did! I just made sure, when I folded them in half at the start, to really really press/rub the fold line and made that one tight. The vinyl verticals are 84 inches long, I believe.. the stars are packed away... but They are as big or a little bigger than the pillow, and I just measured it at 16"! It took 4 slats to make one star... they are 3D on the back too.. the back looks just like the fornt in this pic...

Ohhhhh I love that one too Lyd! I remembered the one in your bedroom and really liked that one also! (you should post a pic of it) I have an old 6 pane window in our bedroom,no glass, no paint and weathered, that just has greenery and fake peach roses twined around it. I have been thinking of this old window in the garage since I painted the kitchen and just didn't know what to do with it. I just did a search for "coffee shop signs" and got some ideas, now *IF* I can find things to do it with is another story....got to keep my eyes peeled.

It is difficult to tell when something comes from the era of macramÃ© hanging baskets. I am so glad that everyone thinks they are a treasure. The colors are so wonderful in person. Cooper, I am sure what the bouquet was from. When she gets back from vacation I will have to be sure to ask about that one. She had live so I know they weren't for her wedding. I really like the box idea, but I am going to have to find a place for it first. I have a couple of shadow boxes of my treasures, like the first roses HE sent me, so my walls are a bit boxed out. Setting them IN a box is a wonderful idea. Thanks, Oakley for that one! They might be hand rolled, but I don't know. There is a roll to it, but not like any made-in-China ribbon I have ever seen. The edges have a thread-like wire in them that the ribbon wraps around. Goody! Goody! I deserve it for the day it took me to sort through those old boxes. : D No other treasures I am afraid.

"Too bad you can't share the amazing transformation with the original owner." It came from a fancy smancy subdivision and I'm sure it was no big deal for the owners to run out and buy new chairs. You know that old saying, "Necessity is the mother of invention." Necessity sure has helped me learn to do a whole lot of things.

And.........did you glue or staple them so that they would NOT fall apart?

here are some good directions with some very good pictures. No, I didn't glue or staple them. maybe I should! lol

most often they work best with strips of paper. who would have thought to use blinds lol.
