What do you think of my idea for this? (PIC)

I don't have money for a new TV console, so here is what I was thinking. I'd add a tin tile to each door, paint it white, and change the knobs to either glass or something with a floral decal. I need to do something with the frayed back, too.

It's not wood, so do I need to do anything special before painting? Any other ideas? I am trying to make it look like a vintage piece.

I have a few faux wood pieces that I painted and made fit in my Prim country decor. All I do is prime with Kilz and put on like 3 coats of paint to be sure that it's covered well. That's usually about it. If you want extra protectionn, you can seal it with varnish or poly or something like that.

Just painting the piece will look totally different...

Hi sandra christie, your last picture looks like a perfect mixture to me. The others looked a little too course and you wouldn't get good contact with the greens and browns if that's true. Keep the whole pile damp like a wrung out sponge and turn it every so often and that stuff will shrink, get loaded with worms and turn into the black gold we all crave here - that's after it heats up and breaks down some. Of course we've got winter to drag through and compost slows down considerably over the cold months. Hang in there, you're on the right track.

Hey Pluckymama, Did you ever get any pictures of the WZ? I would love to see it. Still deciding between that and the sonoma. Dh thought the sample of the WZ was so shiny, but he is leaving the decision up to me. I'm not doing the mosaic and was wondering if I should even do something behind the range. It's only a 30 inch and the range isn't even centered in the kitchen. It's not a huge space and I'm wondering if I should just keep it simple with the subways in a running bond pattern. I use so many accessories, colors and flowers thru the seasons. It's nice to have a neutral backdrop for that. The sonoma tile does come in 1" by 2" herringbone sheets, so I could do that behind the range. Thoughts? One salesperson thought I wouldn't really have enoough space with a 30 inch range to do mamadadapaige's herringbone with the 2x6. Here is the picture of the 1x2 sonoma, although it's not in the right color.

Re-reading the original post, I see that you did say that you were thinking of a lighter fabric. I think that part of what I respond to in your room is the strong lines of the frame against the gray wall. I would not like to see that obscured, and I think you have just the right amount of fabric now, with the bedding and the curtain panel that is visible on the side. I was thinking of black and white framed photos, too, but I'd like to see three - I like odd numbers. I wish I could photoshop!

Very cute! Like almost everything. Not a fan of the zebra rug at all. Looks like it came from another space where they no longer wanted to use it. I would do the ceiling the same color as the wall color. I think the white ceiling (or a coral pink one) cuts off the room - if it were the same color as the walls, the ceiling would disappear. You could also run the tree up onto the ceiling just a bit, again to blur the visual line between walls and ceiling.

Hi Anele,
That is a lovely piece of furniture to do something with. Do what the girls above said, with priming and painting.....white/ivory is a sure bet, and then maybe some flowers, or the tin....I am sure it will turn out good.

Also you could do like Robolady does and cut some spindles in half to decorate it. I've seen the ceiling tins at Home Depot for about $14 each. They also have wallpaper that looks like tin ceilings that is paintable that might be cheaper than the tin tiles. It'll look great as a Shabby Chic piece!
