His, Mine and Ours...

DH and I discussed and contemplated having a child together for quite a while. Our youngest is DD11 and eldest SS25. I was raised without my much older sibs, it is much like being an only child.I don't worry about my kids treating a new child poorly, but do have reservations about my SD's reaction if we do succeed in having a baby.Especially a girl. The violence directed at DD11 comes to mind. I do not want fear to make my decisions for me. DH is much more the optimist.I say he's naive.

Money is not a major concern, although I can already hear some people questioning college finances, etc. Neither of us came from families where kids were "put through" college.Assistance, a place to live, these types of things, yes. No different than the helping out my older sisters or I received as adults and were still learning independence. This seems to have worked out very well for my nieces and nephews, but none of my adult SC were college bound- they chose military or vocation- and are doing well.

My DS makes jokes about DH and I having "The Pure Child," and I know it is a joke, as he sometimes has a dry sense of humor.

Anyway, it took some savings on our part to make it POSSIBLE for us to conceive, and now that it is possible, I feel a little anxious.

I am mostly seeking advice from those who now have a child with the new spouse.
