sadie, I love your closet as well. I hope you don't mind if I steal your ideas. I have a lot of left over paint I want to get rid of, and I have 3 coat closets, only 1 that I actually use for coats. I'm going to start on this project today. I was thinking in one of the closets, I might add wall words. Something I don't have on the public parts of the house, but something to enjoy when opening the closet. I was thinking "There's no place like home" inside our actual coat closet. I don't know if that quote would get me going to run errands, but it would be appreciated when I return and hang up my coat. Does anyone have any other ideas?

There are many ways to cover hangers but one of the most unique ones I have seen is to cut a pattern the shape of the top part of the hanger & about 6" on the sides, straight across the bottom. Back one piece & front, cut about the bottom of the hanger & add a seam allowance to insert a zipper there. Finish off a section on the top where the hanger will go through. Place right sides together & seam all way around. Leave zipper partly open before doing this so you can get your hand inside to finish unzipping it to turn it. These can go under things seldom worn for hiding places or to put accessories to wear with the garment...Whatever the heart desires.

I have this fantasy of installing a bookcase / shelves next to a doorway or opening, but placing them 3" or 4" away from the wall. And then slide big flat things BEHIND the shelves (that's why "next to a door," so there's room to slide them out). And maybe install ledges on the back side of those shelves to hold those flat things up off the ground, or maybe make it possible to store one of them higher up (double-deck). What made me think of that was this item from your list: 2 folding tables (when guests come over) Set some deep shelves (as deep as the folding chairs are wide) by the door to the house (if there is one, or any other door) far enough out from the wall to fit those tables, and then install one ledge low down on the back side of the shelves so you can slide one table in to rest on it, and another ledge above it to set the 2nd table on. You could install those big utility hooks I linked to above, or a 7" ladder hook, on the end of that bookcase to hang the 6 folding chairs on, some low and some high. I don't know how many folding chairs would fit in the 7" depth, but it would be one way to keep them from falling over, etc. And they'd be close by the door and easy to use. Not sure if all 6 would fit; you'd probably need 3 hooks, and I don't know how easy it would be to maneuver chairs off the top hook (Most are 38" high--so if you put the lowest set of hooks so the support is about 39 inches above the floor (not to lift so much as to keep them from falling over) and the next set 39" above that, then thelegs of the top set of chairs would be 78"/6.5' from the floor, so most people would be reaching over their head to get them--not so smart from a safety point of view, probably. If there are stairs, you could reach them more easily, maybe. Or experiment with hanging them upside down from the cross-brace, and that might let you control them better when taking them off. EDITED TO ADD: I just looked it up, and most steel folding chairs are 2" thick when folded, so 3 would fit on each hook. Here's a 7" ladder hook. Not so good for bikes because it doesn't have much of a front "lip" the way the one above does. The pool has cooled off, and last night we went in the spa for the first time in weeks. The pool was 86° (I prefer 87°), and we heated the spa to 103°, which was a bit too warm. Weather was in the 90s, and so it felt pleasant. Here's the new cabana jacket I made Since the pockets are lined with terry cloth, the pattern does not appear to line up exactly when viewed from certain angles - this was the best I could do with this pattern. Also, the pattern shifted slightly when I pre-washed it, but it's busy enough that I think that won't matter. I'll have to order more fabric to make the next one, and it will have thick terry cloth (for winter) like the first one I made. I do like the waffle weave terry cloth, however. This was easier to make than the linen shirt because this fabric did not shift around while I was working with it. For comparison with the linen shirt I made, I ordered at $22 linen shirt from Amazon, and while I like it a lot, I like the one I made better. The one from Amazon has a shirttail hem at the bottom, and I prefer the straight bottom that I made. The pocket I made is nicer.
