I also collect old hankies... And I've posted this many times before...but many here are new. I got these ideas from a magazine about 6 years ago...Don't think I have a pic anymore. I scanned and printed out several of my hankies makeing a lot of prints...you can only get about half and maybe not quite wide enough ...But you use them as border in a room..Using wallpaper paste and overlapping them. I'm sure somewhere in my files I have the pictures and directions. If anyone is interested I can look to see if I can find them. My garden web email doesn't work, but I can be reached at pattico one at yahoo dot com. They also used them as a valance over curtains. Made pillows for the bed. Covered an Ivy jar with a hankie and tired it with a bow, to keep kleenexes in. patti

I think I should warn anyone working with colored tissue paper that the color really comes off when wet.I was tired & wanted to have a sample 1 done by mon. craft club so I wasn't paying much attention. I found that it was best to smooth the tissue on with a bristle type brush about 1 in. wide, I had tried a foam brush & it was falling apart, either old or reacted with the glue.LOL Anyway I set it on tin foil to dry overnight & went to wash my hands & then I noticed they were a mess. So might want to wear latex or similar gloves. I mentioned that the satin balls I had wouldn't work for this but I think they would be perfect if you were pinning ribbons or something else on them as they are very dense(at least mine are). GF & I are making button Christmas trees that someone on this forum made last yr. They were just beautiful & I have lots of old buttons. I had 2 old 12 in. tall cones & sprayed them with gold metallic paint that I had been given. We are using 20 gauge gold colored wire to put them on the cone, I'm hoping not to glue any as I may want to use a few of the buttons eventually. If I have to glue it will be the wire that gets the glue not the button. But at very top had a little trouble with foam breaking I think because wires were so close together to start. It's working well now. I'm sorry I can't come up with pics & can't even take any off my camera until DD figures out why some got erased. I don't use credit cards & so Kodak was going to start charging so she moved them somewhere else. My youngest bro. is whiz with computer even builds them ,too bad none of it rubbed off on me!!DD learned but she goes so fast I can't write down what she is doing. I got a couple of the books. Computers for idiot's at least showed the parts of computer & what they are called. But I keep getting tripped up by windows, either that I bring up or that show up. I would just like most of them to go away but lot don't & then I'm in trouble. Wish it would say "Do you want to add this program?' followed by yes or no. Don't think Bill Gates ever heard of the word "no"!!!LOL have been thinking(rare event)while I wrote this that the cone button/jewelry trees might have been in with last yr's SS Christmas posts & maybe not on here but on GJ forum. Maybe they will show them again as they were wonderful. 1 in pastels with Victorian look & 1 in gold tones with such a rich look to it. Jan

Wonderful display ideas -- and a way to truly honor your grandmother! Simply lovely! And just look at those colors too! Runners are still used on dining and kitchen tables! They are always recommended here on the Forum. Another simple way to display small vintage linens -- piled in a large bowl that works with your decor -- maybe silverplate? for a dining room? or a pottery bowl in the kitchen or family room? I use a handmade(crocheted) dresser or mantel scarf as a valance over the kitchen window. Simply put clear-headed tacks through the holes -- and hang it up!

So glad to help! We also had to order it sight unseen, but I really liked the "minimal" l styling of this one, and I wanted to take advantage of a what appeared to be a really good sale (30% off I think it was???). We thought the bedframe was going to be black but apparently it wasn't! The color name was misleading, and of course, this style was not available in the store. When it was delivered (within days of my parents arrival for a week-long visit, no less), we decided we liked it well enough, and felt it went really well with the floor tile, the C&B dresser we had ordered (which arrived a few days later), etc., so kept it. The quality seems good. It's a bit "oversized' for the mattress and bedframe (a little bit of tucking under, and using small clips; I clipped the bedskirt to the underside of the frame, helps keep it looking neat--probably hadn't done that yet when I took those pics!). I haven't washed it yet, but do take a lint roller or vacuum to it if the cats have been hanging out on it. I keep the mattress pads on the mattresses. Mostly for storage, but it also helps fill out the cover a bit more. The mattresses are not very plump and cushion-y (the one on the pop-up trundle would never fit under the daybed itself if it was any thicker anyway). When my parents come over, we pull out the pop-up trundle (and pop it up), remove the pillows, bolsters, and daybed cover, and then make up the beds with sheets and comforters and regular bed pillows. During my parents' visit(s), the throw pillows and daybed cover then go in the closet on the shelves where the comforters and sheets are normally kept. The only thing that remains on the daybed, with or without the cover on, is the bedskirt (and the mattress pads; I wash those and replace them after my parents' visit, and then make the daybed up again with the cover, bolsters, and throw pillows).
