Hi Prosperity, Garden Junk is another forum here on Garden Web. They take all kinds of things and make "pretties" to put in the yard among their flowers. Karen and I have both made a few of the projects found on there. You can find fairy houses, bowling balls turned into garden spheres, chairs made into planters, satelite dishes turned into gazebos, you get the idea. Thanks everyone! I'm so glad I decided to ask someone before just winging it and ordering the paint. I love that paint and I love my bedspread but I guess loving two things doesn't make them look good together! Always an important thing to remember. I do like the idea of a gray, though. I like cool tones in general; I'd like for my room to feel like a sanctuary. I've always had a pale blue (one of the RH colors, can't remember which) in the past but I'm moving and I was thinking I'd mix it up by going green. I'm going to use the ikea leirvik bed frame (I'm a year out of college and it is both cute and cheap) and originally I was toying with the idea of painting the frame black. Should I leave it white as is and paint the walls a dark enough gray for contrast? I'd still like it to feel sort of fresh. Does anyone have a nice fresh grey paint to suggest? I've seen really nice pictures of grey and white color schemes and would be interested in pursuing something like that with the bedspread as an accent but my picture frames are all black. Some of them were custom and the thought of having them reframed makes me sort of nauseous- so expensive! Would black frames ruin it? Thanks again, I really appreciate the advice. I'm so new to all of this and I'm on such a small budget. I've been picking up furniture on craigslist as I go and I can't say much of it matches. Any advice on offsetting that would be appreciated. With your style being so bold and contemporary, I think you definitely can go larger on the vase, and I would reconsider whether those orchids are the right flower to use. Given the height that you have and no chandelier, you could go taller, more upright, so it can be seen clearly around th chair backs. If you want to use orchids, maybe something more like how they grow so the stems are taller. Or maybe something more contemporary looking like calla lilies Or an arrangement of several different flowers that can give height and interest. You didn't ask, but I'll comment anyway...looking at your room, I think I'd move the flanking pictures closer to the middle one to make more of a grouping as they coordinate nicely.

@User I wasn't worried about the dust getting inside of decorative vases, on the stuff inside open baskets, or just plain settling onto open shelves...at first...As I acquired more things, the harder it was to dust around all the obstacles. The fact that I had to ruthlessly pare down what I had in my house in order to move across the country in August 2017 was just the kick in the tush I needed to get rid of the overflowing stuff I had accumulated since I moved into my old place back in 2002. I also learned a valuable lesson: I don't like having to dust or wash everything a second time because after the first one, I had the *cough* brilliant idea of keeping it on open shelves or open baskets. If I'm going to the trouble of putting a dish or a glass through a cycle in the dishwasher, I want to be able to use them WITHOUT needing to wash the dust out. Which is why my kitchen cabinets have doors on them and I store my glasses open side down. Dust gets everywhere but it can be made manageable with just a few tricks like storage bins/baskets with lids and not leaving stuff out or displaying too many items on any open shelving in the house. I have a 5 open shelf one skinny bottom drawer etagere on the wall between the dining area and the main floor living room; four kiddos in the house and a dog that acts like she's ferocious and wild from time to time, so it's best to keep the number of items that can get broken to a minimum as it is. Add in needing to dust around objects on display (and under them, and behind them) has the potential for ME to break something, but it's not like I'm going to put decorative pillows on these shelves instead sooooooooooooooooo - the fewer items being kept out, the easier it is to avoid any accidental Hummel/Ceramic/Glass breakage.
