Subway tile - is it just called subway tile?
Comments (20)lol, bill - i'm in fairfield county($$$$) Best I can do on Daltile is $2.80 at a place with "outlet" in the name or $2.88 at expo in westchester ( their daltile prices are the same as the hd in norwalk, i think) i'm going to buy from the tile store very nearby where i got my floor tile - the one with adex for $4 something. i'm willing to pay for the "intangibles":convenient, lots of samples in stock to take home (not sure i'll go with white), can get in a couple of days if not in-stock, and they really helped me pick the right floor tile and grout color. owner saved me some money by talking me out of buying what she thought was too much tile...and she was right. :)...See MoreSubway Tile-A step up from Daltile,a step down fr Subway Ceramics
Comments (28)We have considered these lines after ruling out Subway Ceramics due to cost - will make a decision soon! The thicknesses really range here - as well as the "whites". 1) Walker Zanger's Soho collection - also comes in a bevel. http://www.walkerzanger.com/catalog/series.php?mat=Ceramic&coll=Soho Made in Spain. 2) Richards & Sterling - $6.40/SF but their quarter rounds were really pricey ($6.10 per piece)- www.richardsandsterling.com 3) Tile Shop's Imperial Bianco Gloss (mentioned in earlier posts) - $5.99/SF (free shipping over $100) www.tileshop.com/product/productdetail.aspx?familyID=2041&recordID=5039511 - Made in China. 4) Westminster - if you are in the SF Bay Area, Import Tile Co in Berkeley has some back stock - no bull nose. $5.95/SF. The company is out of business but they still have stock. www.importtile.com Made in California. 5) Sonoma Tilemakers - Star collection - $12/SF www.sonomatilemakers.com/LineList.aspx?prod-line-id=8&line-list-id=32&IsLineList=True Made in Sonoma, CA. 6) Pratt and Larson - Simple Solutions collection - $10.50/SF www.prattandlarson.com Made in Portland, OR....See MoreFor those of you with white cabinets and white subway tile...
Comments (22)VJ, I wanted to post a couple of links to Anchor Bay's colors. You can order samples for $2 apiece ($10 shipping, regardless of number). They're all handmade tiles; some are crackled, some are beveled, some are 2x4, some are 3x6, and some lines come in more colors than others. (I think we're doing Soho bisque with a celery listello). http://www.AnchorBayTile.com/Claypads-Tile-Liners-Listellos-p/300clp1201.htm (46 colors for this particular one) http://www.AnchorBayTile.com/Clayline-Ceramic-Subway-Tile-Trim-p/310cll1750.htm (60 for this one) http://www.AnchorBayTile.com/Cardiff-Ceramic-Subway-Tile-2x4-p/230crdf.htm (6 for this one) http://www.AnchorBayTile.com/Soho-Ceramic-Subway-Tile-Trim-p/221sohf.htm (4 for this one) I'm not trying to push this company on you or anything, but they do have a few whites to choose from. They're great for me since I'm hours from a real tile showroom. It's fun to look at Ann Sacks' website, for example, but I have no way to actually order any of that stuff. I love that this is a direct order site. Anyway - I think you're wise to make a reasonable effort to get the two whites to go together (like not putting a cool one against a warm one if you can help it), but like Mary said upthread, it's not even possible to match all your whites and you'll drive yourself bonkers if you try. I know our fireclay sink is a different white than our tile and cabs, but at some point, I have to say that white is white and that's good enough for me. ;o)...See Moresubway tile for shower curb or larger pieces of tile? Comments (41)Creative Tile Eastern CT said: "Tough one to explain. Based on 1/4" per/ft. slope or 2%. Shower 10'x3' for example. If the drain is 5' away from the far wall your floor will slope 1-1/4"" from wall to drain. If that same shower is 36" wide with drain in the center it will slope 1-1/4" in 18" as the height around the perimeter remains the same as the furthest distance." I reread this and looked at a pic of a walk in shower. I think I might get it. I keep focusing on the long part of the current tub/shower that will be a minor slope according to this explanation, but the issue would be that the other three sides would be a more steep slope so it wouldn't look uniform. that' more of the issue, right? It would potentially look like a tub inside of 4 walls (3 walls and a curb). The only thing is that I'm wondering how often tile guys use those exact dimensions because I've seen drains on one end and even fabricated showers with the drain on one side and I don't believe they end up looking like a tub. Maybe they don't drain well? I just visited a friend's really pretty shower with 18" tile and in some spots her shower was level and other parts it was 1/2 a bubble. We looked at the water sit on top of the tile and never go down the drain. It's AZ but she is starting to see minor calcium deposits so will now have to squeegy the floor, too, which wouldn't be good....See Moresuel41452
