Should you use larger tiles along with subway in shower?
Comments (6)fivekeils--Thanks for the compliment! It's a combination of Florida Tile's Renaissance pattern in 3x6 and 10x13 sizes in the color 'Grigio' with their Gold Sistine listello tile. The floor of the shower is the matching mosaic tile from the Renaissance collection in 'Grigio' with a border made from ~1/4 piece of the 10x13 tiles. The grout is the color 'Pearl'. The ledge & curb are both a marble sill from Florida Tile. For the niche sides and bottom we chose a turkish marble we got through Best Tile--the tile guy cut the tiles to our specs to make the bottom ledge in the niche. It was a very economically priced tile, but you do need to check around to get the best price--when FL Tile runs a special to the dealers, some pass the savings to the customer & some don't. Also, if you're using a tile guy to do the work, there should be a contractor's discount. Hope this helps! Comments (18)The contractor does not want to use the bullnose tiles at all on the sides of the threshold. The stone fabricator sold me the bullnose tiles saying that those should be used on the sides of the threshold (which will be 59 1/2'' long -- the length of the tub being converted into a shower). The contractor said that it made no sense to him to use the bullnose tiles on the sides of the threshold because the bullnose tiles were not tall enough for the threshold sides. He would need to put a tile underneath the bullnose tiles. The lesson I learned from this is that it is best to have the contractor review the tile purchase order before purchasing tiles (and not trust the bathroom designer at the store)....See Morecurbs-materials and size

Shower will be 60" BTW. I found this which would be 2 pieces. I'm not sure how the variations of whites would look. In the pic it's not "very white." Comments (11)I agree with you about not using floor tile for baseboard & also agree on not using coving for baseboard. Flat white baseboard like the rest of the house is perfect. I have that throughout my home including in baths - 5” flat white baseboard - no detail on it - so I know just what it looks like. I think it’s perfect for your bath. So I’d stick with subway tile for curb or use another piece of the quartz. Acutally, the quartz might be best - a long white expanse, no seams, matches curb top & blends nicely with baseboard! You can see how it looks with the flooring now with the piece sitting there & it’s good. I vote for quartz! ETA - the 10” wall shouldn’t be an issue - just use the same baseboard as around the rest of the room. I’m wondering if you use quartz for the curb, with the finished ends of the quartz no schluter or anything needed - just butt the quartz & baseboard against each other?...See MoreRelated Professionals
