calling those with white subway tile bathrooms....
Comments (14)thanks for the responses and pictures! still not sure nancynj which color...i've got 3x6 dal tile white subway tiles, black pencil liner and white trims. i was initially thinking blue, but then i saw a picture of a bathrm that had a black pencil liner with the subway tile that was painted green which was nice too. we're still needing to make a final decision about floors and one thought were grey tiles that might make it look more modern so considering a greyish lavender color that i havent quite found yet. ahhh...we're doing an extensive house remodel so this is just one of many many decisions that have to be made...head is spinning!...See MoreFlorida Tile vs. Dal-Tile for Subway Tile Wall
Comments (19)I just want to update for 2019 and say that Marazzi has moved to new ownership recently, and I've seen reviews around the web about people complaining that there is an increased grayish tint to some of the tiles with more recent production beginning around 2018. @bill_vincent stated back in 2009 in a previous comment in this thread that the Marazzi tile he'd used wasn't always square, but we had tile layers this year who recommended it as a good-quality tile, so your mileage may vary. Upon visiting a Marazzi showroom in my area, I was very impressed with the variety and style of the tile on display. Thanks for all the comments here on Florida Tile. I believe I'll avoid it based on these reviews. We used Italian-made Happy Floors tile for a recent master bathroom project and are pleased with it. The installers said it was very square, and the style we chose was a through-body porcelain. Every word-of-mouth recommendation and online review I've read about USA-made Crossville tile has been good. Apparently they have a strict system of quality control. The one complaint is that it can be expensive compared to similar tile in other lines. However, the finish coating on some of Crossville's products is supposedly high-tech to make it more cleanable and long-lasting, so maybe it would be worth it. We've found that our area ProSource seems to offer the best price on Crossville and runs periodic sales on it. Note that there is more than one tile company with the name "Crossville," referencing the location of the city of Crossville, Tennessee, where these companies are located, but I'm talking about Crossville Inc. also known as Crossville Studios. It appears that Dal-Tile's quality is across the board and varies from style to style. Thanks everyone for the input....See MoreAnchorBayTile.com subway tile
Comments (11)I am really happy you found something you love! Its not easy! I have to say there is a really weird vibe I get from the Anchor website. My job is to find the tile places and then hubby does the map thing to find out how to drive there. We do this ALL the time.....it's not rocket science! But every time he tries to map out their address, it pops up somewhere else in Tempe and sometimes the business name changes. So in addition to the fact they advertise some tiles I am very interested in seeing, my curiosity has the best of me so we really have to see it for ourselves....See Moresubway tile for shower curb or larger pieces of tile? Comments (41)Creative Tile Eastern CT said: "Tough one to explain. Based on 1/4" per/ft. slope or 2%. Shower 10'x3' for example. If the drain is 5' away from the far wall your floor will slope 1-1/4"" from wall to drain. If that same shower is 36" wide with drain in the center it will slope 1-1/4" in 18" as the height around the perimeter remains the same as the furthest distance." I reread this and looked at a pic of a walk in shower. I think I might get it. I keep focusing on the long part of the current tub/shower that will be a minor slope according to this explanation, but the issue would be that the other three sides would be a more steep slope so it wouldn't look uniform. that' more of the issue, right? It would potentially look like a tub inside of 4 walls (3 walls and a curb). The only thing is that I'm wondering how often tile guys use those exact dimensions because I've seen drains on one end and even fabricated showers with the drain on one side and I don't believe they end up looking like a tub. Maybe they don't drain well? I just visited a friend's really pretty shower with 18" tile and in some spots her shower was level and other parts it was 1/2 a bubble. We looked at the water sit on top of the tile and never go down the drain. It's AZ but she is starting to see minor calcium deposits so will now have to squeegy the floor, too, which wouldn't be good....See Moreglad
