Need window treatment input....

what would you put here? These windows in the eat in area overlook the pool and the entire space is visible from the front of the house, so I was thinking of something not too obstructive for the most part to take advantage of the view. But also something that could be used to block out some of the hot FL heat when needed.

Thought it best to use the same treatments in the sunroom, which is also visible from the front entry to the house and from the kitchen and can sort of be seen in this shot:

I am terrible with window treatments (don't like them in general, due to dust collection, etc., but undertand their purpose). Plus I am not good at visualizing, so any photos would be greatly appreciated. Not doing any treatments isn't really an option because it would be most energy efficient to block the sun coming in (its a lot) when we aren't utilizing the views to the yard/pool area.

Style would be something simple/contemporary/not frilly? I don't really have a "style" I guess.

Apprecatiate any help!

Hi Kaycee..

I'm sure you will get some input from the people on this kitchen forum, but I was going to suggest you also post this question on the Home Decorating side...They know their window treatment stuff over there..

My only input (since I'm not very good at window treatments) is something simple like a roman shade (?)..(is that what they're called??) I hate dusting vertical blinds, and I think more of a "fabric" type shade that rolls up and down would be less work for you..

I had wood plantation shutters in my old house with wide slats...they were absolutely wonderful and I plan to install them in my new build. They can be tilted to direct the hot sun out, thus keeping a/c bills down. Conversely, they help with heat retention in the winter. They are sleek, and look right in both traditional and more contemporary settings. And, especially important for a kitchen, they don't trap cooking smells. The wide slats are a cinch to dust...and that is it. That's all you do. I think they would look lovely in your beautiful kitchen.

It can be addressed by providing an egress window at the other end of the window opening; interior furniture arrangement and decoration; or turning a blind eye to it. If you have an architect, discuss it with them.

Vinyl, fiberglass, wood, or metal can all hold up swimmingly in that climate. What will not is a poor quality product regardless of material. I'd recommend heeding the recommendation from Ultra Windows above as he's located in your region. I'd also reinforce the quality aspect, and quality/performance often go hand in hand. Lastly, if you are worried about sweating, look at the condensation resistance ratings (CR) as they will tell that story specifically. A surface 4 interior low e coating would be something to avoid if that is an issue for you in the colder months.

@A J Have you looked into or considered external shades for those windows? This would eliminate the concern of those 3 windows looking different & would be invisible from inside. FYI, I have an external mounted Sunsetter shade on a West facing upstairs window. It has a solar panel on it & I raise / lower it from inside with a remote control. It does have wires that go along outside of window (invisible from inside) that the piece at bottom of shade is attached to - holes & wire threaded through, That ensures shade stays straight - goes up / down straight & is held in place if any winds. Check the Sunsetter site to see these remote control solar shades. Don’t know if you’d need one for each window or one big one - depends on size. There’s probably other brands out there.

Top down/bottom up cellulars are great for various goals. Different levels of transparency for privacy or not...you can control the amt of light coming in. The cellular-dbl or triple is actually an insulating feature. At Lowes they let your check out books-they run sales. Each individual window can have it's own unit so you can adjust things how you wish.Some of the fabrics are patterned/or textured-so you can use them in a decor sense as well.Solar shades may be what many use in Fl. also..

I've had this same problem (for years). I've got a large bay window and didn't want to pay for custom treatments. If fact, I would prefer no window treatments at all, except for about an hour in the morning, when the sun really shines in. Then I discovered that Lowes has just started carrying a selection of bamboo style roman shades that they can cut-to-measure. Some even have the built-in liner, if you need privacy. If you're lucky, you may even find a $10 off $50 coupon. I will almost always have them raised, except for Saturday mornings when we sit down to breakfast around 9am. Check them out!
