Need A Name For This Craft!

I've been cleaning out,seems like about 100 years of crapola and came across a card I had made many years ago. It's made with crayons...a wood burning tool was also used, crayons were melted to some degree on a hot plate. I can't remember how it was applied to the paper, but the one & only card I have left looks almost like a water color. I remember the lady who taught me said it was a really old craft and not many people today even know about it. I'm hoping one of you will remember/know about it.TIA Pat

Hi~ I believe it may be Encaustic Painting? Try doing a search on it and see if that's what you are looking for. :) ~Anj

Oddie, I'm game, would love to be on your craft show!! I think we could all do as good as job as the guests Carol had - I especially loved that crazy one who does the embossed velvet, can't remember her name but she was always so funny. I can't remember what Carol actually did in the way of crafts but she was a great hostess. Oddie, I don't know all the abreviations for computer talk yet, either. I am a perfectionist and after years of typing at my job, I naturally type out the whole word. I was never sure if LOL meant laughing out loud or lots of laughs. I even had to ask my grandson what OMG meant.

Sure can> I have made many things. I made one for my Tools, Put a tool belt around it and what ever i needed for project inside. For gardening I put a carpenters apron on it. put my gardening tools in apron and potting soil inside and put it on a plant stant with wheels. I made seats for kids. Painted them with krylon paint for plastic.Added a cushion on lid or you can buy bar stool covers, and put toys inside, For table took 2 buckets, filled bottom on with stones, cut out a piece of plywood in circle, screw it together from inside of other bucket, flat head screws,glued together with silicone glue and painted it with high gloss paint and put 3 coats of poly on it.put their names on each seat on side. They have their on seat and bucket of toys when they come over.I left handle on chairs so they could carry it, Hope this helps.

There is some great advice already given but I'd like to add: There is a "Folk Art" product called "Glass Medium" that you paint/brush/sponge on glass first and let it set overnight to dry. You put it on the area you want to paint as it makes a film when it drys. It allows "acrylic" paint to adhere to the glass better, otherwise acrylic paint just doesn't stick to glass very well. A better choice for glass is "enamel" paint. As said above, letting it set for 21 days is the recommended "curing" time before washing it. I don't think you'll have that much of a problem washing it once it's cured, just don't scrub it too hard. Also know that "stencil" paint is a totally different type of paint. It's all in how it is made. You might want to check out some of the decorative painting books at the craft stores before you purchase paint. In the front of most of the books there is a section on the different paints/brushes to use for painting things. Donna Dewberry's One Stroke Painting books have that section. Her glass painting books also explain about "baking" a glass piece to cure it. There is a specific way to do it. Oddie, I'm so sorry but I haven't a clue as to what to tell you. In reading about Encaustic painting, I found that it resembles a little bit of what I did, but what I did was not that sophisticated. The next time I go to Joanne's or Michaels, I'm going to see if any of their craft instructors know what I'm referring to. When you are out and tootling around your area, if you think of it, you might also ask. Good luck and happy crafting....Pat

calpat, was hopeing if you visted some of these sites it would maybe come back to you, on a video clip I saw where they used some kind of of a heat gun to move the wax around after applying and also a tool like a wood burner to draw with (I think) useing crayons was probley the cheap way of doing it, sounds like it could be fun, I will ask and see if I can get info, if you figure it out please post and let me know. I think it was on CD where they took crayons and rubed on a hot iron useing differnt colors at the same time then wiped it on paper for a desine. maybe thats how you start, oh I remenber they covered the iron with foil frist, so as not to ruin your good iron!
