Hi folks, LL, to me the jab-fruit tastes like a creamy, sweet grape. Those lemon guavas are only vaguely lemony, and seedy. I eat them off the tree, but you have to sort of eat around the seeds. That's why they go toward martinis and jellies. Jay, Bryan emailed me this on the jab: "That is a difficult one. It is definitely in the Myrtaceae family, and may be Myricaria vexator, the blue grape, but even that one I am unsure of since it fruits on the small branches, not on the tips." Someone posted, with certainty, the name of another species, but when I researched it, it looked like just a synonym for Myrciaria cauliflora. NTM, the McCains are raquetball to baseball sized and the PP are proportionately smaller, as you can see in the pic. I found a passionfruit cheesecake sauce I'm going to try with these. (I should have included you in my props to the northern growers. You are the undisputed lychee king!) Jay, I have a couple of figs I haven't tasted yet, Chicago Hardy and Osborn Prolific. My fav so far is Petite Negri, followed by Excel. My largest tree is IT Honey, and it has 15-20 figs on it right now, but the taste wasn't so great last year. Also, in the GH, the eyes on IT Honey opened early and ants got in there and spoiled some of the fruit.
