hello, i have not posted in awhile. i have troubles with my adult s kids not liking me and after years of me being disrespected, hurt and treated like dirt i do not want to be around them anymore. after all the hurtful things they have done to me i prefer to not be around them. dh wants me to like them and be around them but i just dread everytime i have to see them.

ss continues to attempt to get involved in everything dh and i do together. every year we take a special vacation to the tropics and even spent our honeymoon there. ss continues to attempt to go there with us. he tries to be included in everything we do.

in the past when we do include him in our events he always does something that is hurtful to me. history has shown me i do not want him around me when i am trying to enjoy my self because he will just destroy my free time. i have plenty of stress at work i do not need it on my relaxation time.

my question is why does he continue to do this? why does he want to be with us when he knows i do not want him around that much. (he knows because dh has told him). i can tolerate him occassonally but why does he feel the need to invade dh & my personal times?

he is arogant and thinks he know everything and does not have alot of friends. is that why? because no body wants him around.

how do i stay away from him and discourage him from always wanting to be around us without hurting dh feelings?

any good advise would be good.

he wants to be included in vacation trips because it is pad for him, see if he wants to be included if he pays for it himself. bet you not...

I can relate, is your SS adult? My older SD29 is not mean or disrespectful but we never had any time for us because we had to have her with us every holiday, every vacation, etc

She goes on vacations with her in-laws, comes back goes on vacations with her BM, then she asks if we will take her somewhere. It is all paid in full, so why not? Not only hotels and airfare all paid for her but also all meals (3 a day), entertainment, transportation and whatever else is included in trips. She wouldn't even pay for a cup of coffee. (she makes more than me, and I make OK money)

We managed to take a short trip just two of us last fall, and she and her DH (yes she is married) said that next time we go there, we have to take them with us. LOL Really?

I don't know true reasons why your SS wants your company so much, I know in SD's case it is because it is fully paid, so I guess it is the same for your SS.

I certainly do spend time with my DD22 so does her dad, but she absolutely does not want to be included in everything we do, she has a life.

I don't have a suggestion... Your DH has to tell his son himself that he does not have to be included 24/7. If he wants to spend every moment with his son then maybe tell him to do it without you, you can go on your own vacations by yourself or your sister/friend.

I am having the same problem , i know my husband for 7 years but married a year and half my son was 7 when we met, he decided to call him daddy but he was okay and he started treating my son badly, i left in 2019 for him to get help, he did and we got married in 2020 he was good to my son in the entire 2020 till our marriage in dec 2020 my son got on very well with him then we moved into a house he bought and then the nonsense started he shows no love and reprimands my son all the time and we have to walk on egg shells with him, he treats my son badly and says i dont shout at my son or reprimands him which i always do and give him the rope to discipline him, but nothing my son does or say is right in his eyes, i left in may 2022 and he still is picking on my son ,but even he did go for counselling but nothing has changed i cannot expose my son to this, because i choose my son all the time, and i will always, my son is 12 now, and he does not want to ever see my husband again and he said he will never ever call him dad he has damaged my child and therefore i will never go back, he is toxic and a narcissist, he has uprooted my son and my life so many times and i have had enough and i am done, i love my child too much to allow him to treat him this way, i love my husband as well, but at the end what is the sense in having a house but not a home.My son is my life and i will not allow anyone to treat him that way, i dont deny my son does things and is naughty as well, but to be treated like you always wrong is not on, my son talked about suicide as well, so that we can be happy and that pushed me over the edge,i wont lose my child to a man, i also have cancer and he is the one that is aggravating my cancer because i stress so much what is he doing to my son, we are emotionally abused by this man, he walked away from 2 marriages because of the children and by the way it way his own so there is no way he will tolerate mine. any advise for me

I typed in "can't stand my stepson" and found all these postings. I too can't stand my SS. He is 11 yrs old, an only child and can do no wrong in his fathers eyes. I have 3 children of my own ages 5,9,12 (2 girls and 1 boy). I have been with my BF now for 2 years. When I came into the relationship my SS was sleeping in the same bed with his dad. He was 9 yrs old at the time. He is very spoiled(4wheelers,dirtbike, snowmobile and so on). His mother is in the picture and she has him everyother weekend and a few nites a week. Here is the problem....My SS is very jealous of me and my children. He lays on his dads lap and hugs and kisses him on the lips all the time. It is no exageration he does this all the time. It makes me and my kids uncomfortable. My SS is a bigger boy and he weighs about 165ibs. My BF allows this. My SS is also very mean to my children when my BF is not around. He is very sneaky and manipulative and my BF does not see this. I have tried so many times and many different ways to approach and talk about this to my BF but he gets so so so defensive and tells me that this isn't going to work and he chooses his son over me and my kids and I need to go and move out. So now I feel I can't talk to him so I hold everything inside and so do my kids. I have a fair amount of resentment towards my BF and my SS. Im angry and frustrated. My son is a year and half older than my SS and he is so frustrated with him. My son is outgoing. He is in all the sports and is one of the star players. He is also an honor roll student if not high honor. My BF came down on me so hard a few weeks ago saying that his son is coming to him complaining that my son gets to go skiing every weekend and do stuff for all his sports and its not fair. He told me that since me and my F____ng kids moved in his son has taken backseat. This killed me. Im so hurt. My son tried to help teach my SS how to ski and even snowboard but he didn't like it. He gave up very quickly. My son does go skiing most every weekend because it is good exercise, he likes it, and he is not in front of the tv, ipod or laptop. My son too is a bigger boy like my SS. When my son does all these things, i take my girls to the movies, go sliding, let them have a friend over and so on. I also do the same for my SS. My SS is so manipulative also. When its time for him to visit his mom and be with her, he cries to his dad and says he doesn't want to go so my BF lets him stay home. We have it set up so that all the kids go visit with their other parents on the same weekend so we have every other weekend to ourselves. We agreed that we needed this time to be togethter to make this blended family thing work. My SS will go in the bathroom and secretly call his dad and ask to come home from his moms. And most of the time he lets him. My children have a great relationship with their dad and so do I. I'm just so frustrated. He never says no to him. When my SS calls he asks what we are doing and my BF won't tell him the truth because he doesn't want to upset him so he lies to him and just tells him we are home doing nothing. I feel like a nothing. Im so mad and angry. Even my BF's friends don't like the way my SS treats and has treated their kids. They complain to me all the time and no one dares to say a thing to my BF. What do I do? I love my BF and have a fair amount of like for my SS. My children do love my BF and can do without the SS. I'm fed up and need a little advice. Sometimes I feel guilty for feeling so negative about my SS. I get a lot of anxienty around him and Im trying to help my kids too. I tell them to ignore him and point out that someday things will change. I believe very much that my BF's and SS relationship is a little unhealthy. My BF is treating him like a baby and not letting him grow up. I feel he is so needy of his son as his son is so needy of his dad. I always try to take my kids and leave them alone to be together because it was expressed to me several times by my BF that he wants a fair amount of time with his son alone. When I do leave and give them this time, I am treated poorly when i return. I just don't know. Please I will take some advice.

Personally, I think it was a mistake for your husband to call his ex. We've dealt with this for two years now, SD goes to her mom's and tells mom 'stuff' and mom calls dad up, yelling & ranting at him.. not 'discussing' as reasonable parents should. From your post, it sounds as if he didn't call when he was calm & reasonable, he was upset. She responded with anger or defensiveness, which is not going to resolve any conflict or resolve the problem he hopefully wants to resolve. (and my SD has also been sitting next to her mom when mom calls dad to yell at him and she'll be crying and begging mom to stop... then I'm sure she feels this is all her fault. Not a good position for a kid to be in.) Kids will play up the parts of a story they know mom or dad will react to and the truth is, there isn't much you can do about what mom did. Unless there is a bruise of other evidence of abuse, involving CPS on a one time incident is going to subject the child to further trauma... if it's an ongoing problem, then maybe intervention would be appropriate but it sounds to me like mom was stressed out and reaching out to dad for help by calling him. When she called to say she was going to hit him, what did dad say to her? Did he offer to take the child since she was obviously stressed out? I think one resolution would be to give mom help with reducing stress, which may be more time at dad's and maybe the parenting classes or counseling to help her deal with problems. I don't think it would help to call CPS or file to take her child away from her if she is otherwise a reasonable parent that just had a bad day. Last year, I was put in the position of being accused of hitting my SD. She wanted her mom's attention so she told her mom that I hit her all the time. Her mom called CPS on us claiming my 18 year old daughter grabbed SD by the arm, dislocating her arm. All of it was untrue, nobody has ever hit or grabbed SD in our home and CPS closed the case because it was an obvious lie, but the point is that it put my SD through additional turmoil of us having to take her to the doctor to be examined and she was pulled out of class at school to be interviewed... and all the time, she knew this was because she told her mom that I had hit her.. which was made worse for her because she knew it was a lie. I don't think she realized what a big deal it would become. and it's no picnic to be falsely accused of abusing a child!

This is a stereotype: “it's our jobs as SM's to suffer in silence for the sake of the children that are brought into our lives by no choice of their own.” Wow! Absolutely not. Neither SM nor the SKs asked for mom and dad to divorce. Mom and dad made that choice on their own. Marriages and relationships take place all the time between people that we have no control over. A 17-year-old may start dating a Marilyn Manson look-alike, and everyone is expected to take it all in stride and stay out of it. A few years later, that 17-year-old may even decide to marry MM. Uncle Harry marries aunt Sue. Everyone thinks she’s a be.atch, but favorite uncle Harry marries her anyway because he sees a different side to her and knows she’s the love of his life. In all of these cases and more, people were brought into our lives by no choice of our own. But, for the most part, people make it work. No one expects anyone to suffer in silence. It is just the way it is. But, throw the term SM in the mix, and suddenly SM is to suffer in silence and put up with being at the bottom of the list. SM is supposed to cook, clean, and wipe bloody noses all without expecting anything in return, including not even expecting respect. She is to have no say in her own marriage to DH or her own household. She is to suffer in silence for the sake of someone else’s children. She is the family’s servant. Any issues arise from a divorce that she had no part in, and she is supposed to be just fine being the family scapegoat. Mom and dad’s hands are always supposed to be clean, for the sake of the children. Then these SKs grow up, and continue to treat SM as the family servant and dad’s piece on the side, even as adults. After all, they re just following everyone else’s lead. However, doesn’t this sound to be me more like something from The Handmaid’s Tale, then a life any woman should ever be expected to contend with under any circumstances? Unless she is in the lowly approx. 6% of SMs who had an affair with dad, who then divorced mom, and dad and SM went on to marry, SM had no part in mom and dad’s divorce ether. SM married dad xpecting to be his wife and treated as such. No SM that I know of married a man expecting to suffer in silence for anyone. No one in any marriage or relationship should. Abused women, for example, were told they had to suffer in silence for years. Ridiculous! Yes, a woman knows marrying a man with children from a previous relationship will have its unique challenges. But, the anticipation is that for the most part, people will make it work. No one should have the expectation that SM is to let anyone in the family walk all over her. This idea that everyone has value in a family, except for step-parents has got to end, and it reeks more of a stereotype from the early 1900s than the 2000s.

I think PO1 hit it with 'paid'. I had to go read a few other of OP's threads to remember the backstory, but this is the guy who wants to take over the home and entertain his buds while you're not home. Wants Dad to buy stuff that will benefit him. Now wants to be included in all private down time too? Mooch.

Wants to be able to live your lifestyle either on your dime and/or without having to spend any of his own. He's an adult, not a child, not a teen and not even a starting out young 20ish. He's pushing 30, right?

I really have no clue what might make things better about this without hurting DH. Is it that Dad does not know how to say no? Is Dad afraid son was get angry, have nothing to do with him if Dad does not give in? Or maybe Dad really enjoys having the guy around and along all the time, kinda making you the third wheel?

I'm not sure what I would do, but I know I would not spend my vacation time with a freeloader that annoys me to begin with. Maybe a vacation with a friend on your own is something to think about. Maybe Dad and son can do a vacation get away for 'guy crap' and then not invite son along for 'couple trips'. I'm thinking I'd rather either stay home while they all gone having a quiet 'me time' or pick up the phone and make reservations to enjoy myself and treat a friend.

I can understand a 'family' trip once in a while at times when one wishes to share an event with their grown children, but I don't invite myself or expect to be invited on my children's vacations...why should they invite themselves or expect to be invited on mine. I do take the whole family (as a whole and/or at different times) when the mood strikes DH and I . I do take the grandkids along once in a while (usually because they are company for my youngest daughter). I would resent and set them all straight though if they thought it was their due right and/or invited themselves and/or demanded to be invited.

You are right justemtoo, dad is probably scared to say no because it would anger SS. My SO is afraid to say NO because SDs would get mad at him. SD used to not talk to BM for months every time BM said NO to something, SO told me he scared of the same. So he says YES. Then complains to me...

Not to hijack but I could just so relate...We are planning long road trip and I have bad feelings that it won't work. YSD would insist to go with us, OSD would say she wants to visit at exact same time. It would be the end of it.

Two years ago SO planned to visit his old college friends out of town, and I fully supported the idea. But SD said she MUST visit at exact same time, and he canceled his trip. But when she visited, she did not even stay with us, but went on a trip with her mom (mom paid). SO promised he'll never cancel anything just because of SDs, but will see and wait...

so I totally know how that feels...

I can not imagine inviting myself on trips with my dad and stepmom!!! But my sister does it all the time to them. She talks badly about my stepmom, is mean to her face, and has done awful things to her. My dad always makes excuses and condones her behavior to my stepmom.

My sister does all this because she wants to be the center of daddy's world. She also does it because she knows she can!

People only get away with what we allow them to get away with!

he is 25, has a job, girlfriend and seems to want to hang with us. not sure why? yes, it could be the money thing bc dad always seems to want to pay when he is with. i think now that he is doing good with his job he should pay. thanks for all the good advise and helping me think through this. i plan to refuse him coming on our special vacation time in the future. also plan to attempt to stay away from him when i need my relaxation time.
