Hardware and lighting to match or not to match?

I was wondering if you used ORB or some form of bronze as the finish for all of your lights in your house and used stainless for all of the plumbing fixtures would you go with stainless door knobs or a bronze type of door knob.

The doors will be painted in a color close to this or maybe darker.

Please go with something in pleather--the naugas are a threatened species! I don't think light fixtures need to match, especially not the ORB. It's, you know, blackish. Doesn't even count as a metal finish. I think satin and polished finishes should be fine together on knobs and stools. Fixtures and furniture really aren't required to match anyway. Of course it all depends on the room. It's possible for it to be just awful, but odds are much better that it'll be fine.

Matching is out as a style preference. Generally, one matches hardware as a device for toning down a design that has too much going on in it. If you have a normal kitchen that isn't making people's eyes bounce all over the place there's no need to do that. Since you're taking about vintage looks, I'm assuming you're talking about something like a black wrought iron for the chandelier, not glossy black enamel, right? That would look great with the antique pewter pulls. Like a black sweater looks good with antique pewter beads. Go for it! If you're talking more something like the one below, then I'm not so sure, and would wonder what the rest of the kitchen looks like.

Those items do not have to match, but they should correspond. And in this case I would not put ORB with reddish brown. If you're going to do two different metals that close to each other, they need to be different enough as to not look like you tried to match and failed. Either use the same metal or something strikingly different.

What finish is the lighting in your bathrooms? If it's bronze, then go with bronze knobs. If it's chrome or stainless, use bronze throughout the rest of the house, but chrome/stainless inside the bathrooms. In other words, the outside of the bathroom door will be bronze, but the inside stainless.

Chibimini, this is actually a new build so I have nothing in place yet. I see your point on the individual baths having the same finish for all fixtures.

We used ORB light fixtures and cabinet hardware and used chrome for our faucet. I think it looks okay. Here is a picture of our kitchen. In our bathrooms we used chrome for everything but door hardware. It looks fine as well I think.
