I think black is universal and can go with other finishes. I'd almost rather you do the lights black and not all the fixtures as too coordinated seems too "planned" for a vintage look. I think the antique pewter would look very well near the black finishes. The black also will work with your nickel knobs.

Matching is out as a style preference. Generally, one matches hardware as a device for toning down a design that has too much going on in it. If you have a normal kitchen that isn't making people's eyes bounce all over the place there's no need to do that.

Since you're taking about vintage looks, I'm assuming you're talking about something like a black wrought iron for the chandelier, not glossy black enamel, right? That would look great with the antique pewter pulls. Like a black sweater looks good with antique pewter beads. Go for it!

If you're talking more something like the one below, then I'm not so sure, and would wonder what the rest of the kitchen looks like.

I agree that mixing would look great - especially with a vintage style. I would like the pewter and black together. Nickel too.

I've seen several recent posts from you and would love to see some photos of what you've done. I'm intrigued by your farmhouse/vintage look that you describe! Any photos to share with us since you've finished the kitchen. Even with some tweaking to do, as you say you are doing, photos are so helpful to others and we love them.
