Have you seen the Saloom furniture yet? Check the New Castle for pics of tables and chairs. You can order in different finish colors and wax techniques. They also offer a pedestal table if you are interested. There are size selections too so you can order the one that fits.

Honestly- I love the table! I'm just not sure about the chairs...and the hutch seems a little heavy. Maybe too linear?

The hutch... hummmm I do like the open shelves, but I can't say I love, love, LOVE the hutch, but it's from the same company (Lort's) and I have something in my head that always makes me match the color & finish!

The dining room was an old porch at one time, but since the original dining room sits right next to it (which is going to be our "breakfast room"). I would like a more formal (but casual) feel to the room. The room is large, and can hold a trestle table well.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet... so would love to hear what other's think...

beausrose, I forgot about that table company, there are a couple places that carry it here, but many seemed to switch over to Canadel... another great table company, that I think I will use for my kitchen.

Amy, thank you! I am just finishing painting the kitchen (it was on hold for months). I changed the color to BM Silver Crest - I love it! It's a color that I would never have thought of, but my new rug gave me inspiration!

The hutch, I'd like to hear what other's think ... ? I like this manufacturer, and they customize colors more than any other company I found. Should I change the color to something different (paint) or keep it the same as the table and chairs?

Also - for the table & chairs, I was going with Pecan... nutmeg sample is almost a clear coat, Maize.. I like, but some said it was yellow...
I was told that some of my wood finishes are too heavy (and I think so too, but I'll work on them at another time!)

I have a table just like that !! Mine is pretty long, so it has a center leg also. i have had it about 12 years, and I still like it. Mine is from a company that starts with an M, and is sort of a womans name ........can't think of it now!!

I like the first chairs better than the french ones. They are a bit top heavy.

I like all of the pieces, especially the hutch! It definitely fits in with whatever "country cottage" style you want. lol.

Check out Bassett's chairs that have a ladder back. You can get in several different finishes and they are not terribly expensive. I ordered them for our condo at the lake in the ebonized oak (almost black) finish, used a bench on one side and upholstered arm chairs on the ends. We have been very happy with them.

Outside, I really like the basset furniture, and think I might look at them again for my kitchen/breakfast room. Lort's is definitely a different look. The one thing I KNOW I want is the plank top table. I have spent countless hours looking, and found several tables I like, but Lort's is the only one I found that offered chairs that I liked.. and their finish is different than basset, canadel, amish made, etc..

I think what you've chosen is just perfect and you're right to choose a lighter tone. I like the portabello. It's a timeless look and very warm and charming and one that can be passed on as it never goes out of style. Well done!!!

yayagal, I thought the portabello looked very nice, but they discontinued that color! Speaking to the sales person, they said Barcelona was very popular... It's the color I have on my current table and chairs (which I'm selling). She said the pecan is less red... I don't have a sample. I have a sample of Maize, Villager & Nutmeg. I've ruled out Nutmeg (too light) and Villager, too dark.. Maize looks lighter than Barcelona, but the sales person hasn't ever seen it in person... so I'm thinking pecan or Barcelona..? There is no longer a store that carries this furniture nearby (they went out of business). However, since I have a Lort's set I bought 4 years ago.. I remember the furniture.

Who thinks I should choose a different color hutch?

I am like you, I tend to want to keep everything from the same maker and color...guess it is my "balanced" personally.

I don't think the hutch is too dark if it matches the chairs and table you chose.

Just a personal message....I sold my house after my DH passed away...moved back "home"...getting ready to stake my
new house tomorrow...and I am so excited. I found an Amish construction crew and have full faith in them to be honest with this old woman and do a good job.

I always like to plan ahead...so bought most of my furniture already....even found a great deal on a table that makes out to 104" and 8 chairs with padded back and seats....Broyhill. They were a fraction of what the other things are costing me....so love my bargan!

I am looking forward to watching you decorate your beautiful home...and I know you will do a wonderful job!

I have all wood in my dining room. My house is a 1908 Colonial Revival meets Craftsman. I think my dining room has too much wood and I will, sometime, find the perfect painted sideboard or hutch for it. Personally, I prefer mixed, not matched furniture. Do what you love; your pieces are lovely.

Tinker then I would stick with the original color and do all the pieces the same. You can lighten up the hutch with creamy tones and it will look wonderful. I love the choices you made, timeless, relaxed and quality.

Thank you everyone! I just returned from actually "seeing" all the sample! I got a price locally - it's CRAZY, I guess they don't want my business! They are 50% higher...

Anyway, the samples I saw were awesome, and helped me narrow it down between Barcelona & Pecan, but they really almost look the same!?

I was about to ask the designer some questions, and he helped.. somewhat. In regards to the hutch, I think I will do the same color... 12 to 14 weeks before it arrive... so just intime for the holidays!

I say they are all great pieces! You can always add colorful pieces to you hutch to brighten it, and change it as you like. (I do kinda like the idea of the hutch in a painted finish, though.) Is the upholstery in the picture what comes on the chair, or do you choose your own? I love, love the chairs, not so sure about the upholstery. But pics don't always do "stuff" justice. I love your kitchen, but I loved the green, can't go wrong:)

beausrose, the store also carried saloom, VERY NICE!! I really like them, however the plank table closed (without leaf) was only 72, and the planks were not individual boards, but I am going to look at them again for my breakfast room table & chairs!

Lake Girl, the upholstery is ugly.. nothing I really like! They will do COM, but charge $125 per chair.. at that price, I can have someone locally redo them for less.

Now.. my last tough decision... to have them "standard" distressed, which is distressed.. but much less than the "antique" distress.. which is pretty heavy

Do the pics show them standard distress or antique distress? One good thing about distressed furniture, you won't cry with the first scratch or ding. I think that's why I've always loved antiques. Maybe I should go with an antique car next time :)

Glad you were able to check them out for options. It's always hard to decide but I love the ones you have selected also. Do you choose your fabrics for the chairs?

My local store wouldn't work with me on the price either so I ordered from a NC store and saved. Shipping to FL was approx 250 as I remember.

What style is the rest of your house decorated in? If you're starting from scratch, what is the style of the home? That could lead you in the right direction in deciding between english country, french country, etc.

jjdcl, my home is a 1937 historic bay-front "cottage". It looks like a cottage, but is 3000 square feet, so not so small. I'm located in FL, and this house was once a winter residence for a wealthy PA family & servants... I do have some furniture from my old residence (a home we built a few years back) but I 'm mostly starting from scratch and getting new stuff as it evolves.

I like wood tones..I have mostly darker (from my old house) but I don't care for some of the darker pieces, and wish they were lighter. (medium tones I like the best - not too light or dark! My floors are old southern heart pine, and they have a lot of red tone in them.

I really like your choices and think the hutch would look great as is or painted. I understand your desire to match wood tones. I have felt that way too, however, I have grown much more comfortable with mixing painted and stained pieces of different tones over the years, and now I love the richness of the variety. But, again, the pieces are so pretty. They will look great coordinated or not. Please post pics!
