Maybe your CL is more onerous than where I live, but I think I'd just search for dining chair. I suspect some people selling parson's chairs wouldn't know that's what they are called (like if they were selling their parent's estate maybe). If they sell fast in your market, then I'd check several times a day, otherwise, every day or every couple days.

Depending on the amount of time you have available, I might just put 'Chairs'. You NEVER know how someone is going to describe something or where they may put it on CL. I have seen cars in the furniture section. I always select the 'has image' box, too, because I don't want to waste time on a listing with no picture/s. I also select 'Furniture by owner', as I am not interested in dealer's items.

Yes, I check them every day, although I have so many chairs I've found to re-do that I HAVE to slow down.

I'm in Maine, and we have one CL for the whole state, so there isn't a huge amount of new stuff to glance through each day. And you'll see the same over-priced ads appear every day for months, if your listings are anything like mine. I always wonder why they don't reduce the price when they re-list.

I'd just search "chair". People don't necessarily know what certain chairs are called.

I've seen all sorts of items called names I would never have expected. For instance, if I'm looking for a nightstand, I'd search for bedside table, bureau, and dresser! Oh, and chest, too!

I agree, with above posters. You can try that "Parsons Chair" first, but in my mind, that person wants more because they know their chair has a real name.....it's the unsuspecting lister, who calls it a "chair" that will be practically giving it away.

I have someone who is selling those faux bamboo aluminum chairs and table, she is calling them "ASAIN patio furniture". Not a typo. She even types it in her txt messages that way. So, if I was looking for "Asian" chairs (not that these are anyway) I wouldn't have found them. She is currently down to $85 for the set, when she hits $50, I will ring her again.

Another case: My brand new Henry Link Bali Hai bedroom set that was listed for $100 was listed as "5 Piece French Pruvential Style Bedroom Set".

So, you have to assume there are typos, and people who don't have a clue what they have.

Look daily, and often. The best stuff goes quickly. As Victoria Elizabeth would advise you, don't ask too many questions, just get there and then decide!

I have to be a bit specific in my area, it's unbelievable how busy it is. (Dallas CL). We've listed items that were already on page 3 within an hour!

Sometimes, I'll put in a specific town (closer to me), sometimes a price range, sometimes the item. The price range is usually about 95% accurate.

I agree with above posters, many people don't know the correct names/terms. I see a lot of "Chip and Dale" furniture. :-D

And don't forget to check for "dinning" chairs, too.

In my area (Portland, OR) this would be an easy task. I typed in "parson", then "parson's", and came up with 36 ads, ranging from a single chair to a dining set. This type of chairs is so ubiquitous, and lots of stores carry it. As a result, there are plenty of parson's chairs in the second-hand market.

My shopping preference would be for affluent neighborhoods since people there tend to buy higher quality. They're also more likely to price their stuff low in relation to the initial purchase price. They often just want it out of the house to make room for new furniture.

Poorer folks often try to raise cash through CL to make ends meet. They are much less likely to come down on the price.
