Christmas Donations & Halloween Scene

Just finished these....whew! The three piece set goes to a silent raffle on Sunday.

The very late or very early Halloween scene was really a test of skills for me and looks nothing like the pattern by Patricia Rawlinson and I can see that my sky looks broken up rather than scattered. Oh! Well! What's done is whats done. I still have to figure out how I am going to present this one, frame or a wall hanging. Now I have a ton of housework to catch up on!!!

Belle,

You have been busy. I love the Christmas gingers. The way you showcase them with the candle, candy and the berried tree and candy canes and pinecones. Great job! Be sure to let us know how the raffle goes. I am sure these will be a great big hit.

As much as I really like the Christmas paintings, when I saw the Halloween, a big ole AWWWWW! came out of my mouth. It is great!! I can see how it took a lot of time, with all of the details. What I cannot do, is find a favorite part. The smoky, ghosty, starry fog, the pumpkin patch with headstones, the fence, the happy jack o lanterns, your shading and highlighting, the perfect round wheels,... all of it.... w.on.d.e.r.f.u.l!!!!

I like the sky. Although at first glace the painting is cute and has a bit of a happy feeling, overall it truly feels haunted and the sky is a big part of that feeling. Did I say that I really, really love it? All of it?

Now Belle....you know we want to see what you painted....not what Patricia Rawlinson did. ha You made it your own and that's what makes it special. I (having not seen her pattern for this) think it's absolutely perfect! The Halloween tray looks magical!
The gingerbread trio looks gorgeous. So crisp and bright. I love it and all the trimmins you put inside each one. I swear those candy canes on the corners look so good they look like they have a 3D effect. Gives the illusion that they are really stuck on the corners. You did a great job. Be proud and I know they will do well at your raffle. ~Anj

I was a civil service worker for some years and was on call one weekend a month for emergency clearing of streets and such from tree damage. In '79 there was a storm that went on for three weeks with Santa Ana winds in the middle. The whole crew worked 40 hrs. overtime in one weekend. We were appreciative of the home owners that came out with coffee in the middle of the night. We went to a new address at 6 in the morning and Connie Chung was standing on a down tree with her microphone. The lead man was grumpy and told her to get out of the working area. May be in her blooper file. ;^) I was thinking about this past part of my life when the fires were burning here and remember seeing D9 Cats cutting fire breaks on the news. Turns out some of the Cats were run by guys I see at the county landfill as I am a frequent visitor there for my work. I have been talking with some of my customers in the fire damaged areas about organizing a BBQ for the fire fighters and the civil service workers that helped to keep them safe. It is still in the organizational stage but hopefully will pull it off. Getting people to donate and running it through a non profit is more complicated than it may seem. hope we get enough and then some and can use extra for the people who have suffered losses.

I'd cage big ol' "Ah-nowld" too. That's one wicked looking bird. LOL. Neat how you glittered him and did his eyes in glow red. 'Nevermore' is probably hiding from him, you know how brothers can pick on each other! Love all the cobwebs, and the way you disguised your normal art work is perfect. Way to go!! Yes, the Enablers here drag us into buying and decorating in ways we never have before. LOL I am going to do some cobwebs this year for the first time, have been really liking that look. I'm only doing a real small area for Halloween tho. My family-room mantel, the built-in shelves to left of it, and the small round table under them. Otherwise, just leaving up my Fall decor. And I am going to confine my Halloween decor pretty much to witch stuff. They are my favorites, and frankly, I just don't need to go overboard buying MORE holiday items to try and store. I've gone so nuts over Fall as it is, and Christmas of course, that somewhere in my life I need a little self-control. LOL. Sorry that I didn't get back earlier to say thank you and to answer a couple of questions. DH & I spent yesterday at one of our favorite big annual art shows. By the time we got home, I was exhausted . . . but very happy. Anyhoo, thanks for your kind comments on my Halloween decs. Yayagal: sadly we don't get any trick-or-treaters here. We live in a mountain community with no sidewalks or streetlights, and with bears, mountain lions, bobcats and coyotes who wander around here at night. So my decs are just for us and any friends we invite over for dinner, etc. Madeyna: thanks! Luckygal: you sound like me with all your bins for every holiday (LOL!) Katrina, Fun & Anele: thank you! Marti8a: no, the scarecrow dec doesn't light up. It's one of many ceramic pieces I painted years ago. As for where I store them the rest of the year, our home is a one-story, all adobe hacienda. Houses out here, including ours, rarely have attics or basements. So, when we had this place built, we had a large storeroom (and a cedar closet) built in our big attached garage. Mustangs, I'm sorry your husband didn't notice your decor. :( When we were getting to know each other, I was thrilled to learn Mr G was/is just as much into holiday decor as I am .... especially Christmas lights. He goes overboard (in a good way!) with them. I'm terrified of getting on the roof, but his hobby is rock climbing (mountains), so it's nothing! Mimi, oh, no!! I so hope you find your decor! Funny about the Owl sign .... the day after I took the picture, my husband backed over it with his truck! Mowed down some Zinnias, part of the Crape Myrtle, and sign. I was able to fix it. :-D Lynn, I think I remember seeing your Halloween decor in years past, and LOVE what you do! Goodness, it always awes me! Please share your pics, can't wait to see. :)

What wonderful projects you've made. The little gingers are so cute and nicely finished. Did you go to the auction for them? If so, how did they go?

The Halloween scene is great and I think it turned out beautuful. I hope you are keeping this for yourself. It looks dimmensional. Looks like alot of painting time involved.

Thanks you all for the kinds thoughts.

I am keeping the Halloween piece which is made on roclon or Black Out curtain material. And it works so nicely! It doesn't ravel. I don't know if I will frame it or make a wall hanging of it. I love doing pumpkins but these were the hardest I have ever done!!!It was really hard keeping them light in color.

As to the auction, my friend gathers all of the donations and I do the rest and this time we had over 100 items and made almost $2,000 dollars. My three donations were done as separate items and made $35.00 I bid on this lovely old measuring (glass) cup with a metal lid fitted with a hand egg beater. It went for $42.00 - DH just about kicked me for not bidding higher, but that's to high for a do dad. I did get a beautiful crystal little bowl like candle holder with gold trim and beautiful poinsettia's around the bowl. It was part of a two piece set and the winner gave it to me after one of the other helpers told her I was bidding just to get it, that was so nice! And I came away with several other items.

Anyway, my body hurts all over and I have stinky oysters in my fridge that I hope DS eats soon!

Good to hear from you but sorry your hurting. I hope DS eats those stinky oysters too if you don't like them. However I don't think being rid of the oysters will help your hurting.

Sounds like your auction went well and I'm glad your keeping your halloween project.

The trio are cute but I'm nuts about that Halloween scene, it's adorable & beautifully done, I haven't done sky, or black sky I should say. Jan

Sunnyca.....the entire background is painted black then green for the landscape and actually Purple for the sky....then everything else is added.

I am going to do another one and try to keep it "cleaner" I think mine isn't sharp enough and it was fun except for the pumpkins. I will also use the other side of the cloths which is smoother and should be easier to shade.
