@erinf8 - The crown molding detail in our house is very odd. It is actually 1-3/4" picture molding mounted approximately 1/2" from the ceiling. Since the house is so old and the ceilings far from plumb, the 1/2" space can vary in dimension in any given room. The kitchen ceiling was terribly out of level as well. We feathered down the plaster as best as we could so the variances wouldn't be obvious. The final crown detail was actually a big disappointment of mine in this room. I could not get the cabinets guys or my carpenter to come up with a solution where we could get that 1/2" reveal at the top of the cabinets. We would have had to create extremely long scribes and had we not been running out of time, they might have figured it out. So at the cabinets the shadow line you see at the top is because the molding doesn't touch the ceiling there. It is a big compromise but when I look at the whole room, I try not to dwell on it. Sometimes working in an old house can be really challenging. I am glad I stuck to my guns and kept that little molding when I got a lot of unsolicted advice to use something larger. It just would have looked SO out of place next to the other rooms in our house. The space between counters and uppers is 18". The light colors make it all appear more airy, I think. Don't you love that salt box? I just got it two weeks ago at Crate and Barrel (Homestead Salt Cellar $9.95). It is the perfect size and it has a lid.

Just to chime in...we had a 36" x 36" lazy susan in our old kitchen...the kind w/the pie-cutout (squared corner rather than diagonal front) + center pole. It held a lot! I don't know the diameter, but it was so close to the walls of the cabinet that about all that would fall would be a toothpick. (I thought I had something fall, but there was nothing there when they demolished...) With the exception of my 9"x13" pans, all my pots, pans, pizza pans, colanders, etc. fit in it. I had planned to have another one for an appliance garage this time around, but the two corners ended up being (1) a corner prep sink and (2) a 27" cabinet turned around as a pet center. My DH requested the pet center idea. If I did not have a separate, step-in pantry, I would have nixed that idea (I had veto power). But I can store my small appliances in the pantry...although they will take away food storage space. I have seen the blind corner units (in showrooms) and they looked like they wasted space and that it would be easy for things to fall off the shelves. My KD mentioned that some of her clients complained about having to crawl into the space to get fallen items quite frequently...so she discourages people from using them...from what I saw, I have to concur with her. BUT...to each his own! HTH!

Linda, I love the fabric you chose. Moire is a favorite of mine, and the colors in the plaid are lovely. I can just see you doing the victory dance! LOL I feel like we only have pieces of information, so I am going to ask a few questions. It would also help to have pix of the whole room, or even a drawing of the floor plan so that we can tell what is going on in the entire space. What is the look you are trying to achieve - casual yet elegant? More french country but not as formal? Something else? If the cabinet has to stay where it is (and I am never convinced of that on the first shot, LOL) do you ever open the window? If not, you need to take down those draperies and put them on either side of the window by the chairs. I would Think about either doing a solid, closed panel of the fabric, or a large piece of artwork, or a shelving unit that sits on the cabinet, finished to match, that will completely hide the window. What you are doing with the side panels is drawing more attention to the window back there, rather than making it disappear. And disappear is what you want it to do as long as the cabinet is in front of it. What is on the wall behind the couch - another window like the one by the chairs? Do you need matching treatments for both sets of windows if that is the case, and do you have enough fabric to do it? Yes, I could easily see green in there. I would think about doing the couch in a pretty shade of green, or in a deeper shade of the wall color (which I couldn't find on the BM site - do you have the color number instead of the name - Millet didn't come up). Do the wing chair in a stripe of some kind. Maybe something like this? capulet stripe, bluebell Does the other large armchair stay? Does it need to be re-covered? Then perhaps this toile for some pillows for the couch and one lumbar pillow on the chair? rustic life, lake There is also Rustic Life, Porcelain, that might work, but may be too bright. As for roman shades, it would depend on whether you intend to have the plaid panels on those windows, and whether you need privacy, light control, or just a window treatment for looks. A rug is hard to suggest because I can't really see what your floors are now and how much space you are trying to cover. It also depends again on where you are headed style-wise. Of course, the fabric suggestions are just that- suggestions. Too hard to tell colors for sure on the monitor to know that they would match - but it gives you some ideas about what kinds of fabrics you might try to find. Once you get all those things in place, then you can also bring in more green in your accessories - and you already have some plants to help that along, too. Ad for the knobs on the cabinet, I would be inclined to choose a brushed metal finish of some kind - nickel, brass? What do you like, and have already in the room in things like lamps and pix frames?

Of the three original choices, I would definitely pick B with a different door & shelves...I had a Lazy Susan in my old kitchen and it held an amazing amount of stuff. Nothing ever fell off b/c the wall of the cabinet followed the contours of the shelves. It wasn't a super susan, it was one w/a pole down the middle (like your picture). All my pots & pans fit in it! It was also the one cabinet that after almost 13 years was NOT falling apart! I had originally thought I would have one in my new kitchen and planned to use it to store all my small appliances (blender, food processor, waffle iron, etc.) But my DH wanted the Pet Center so I lost it. (I now use valuable pantry space for my small appliances, but the Pet Center made my DH happy, so it was worth it.) All that being said, my lazy susan had a couple of differences from your picture that I think are key.... Door: The door of my lazy susan was attached to the shelves so it rotated inward when I opened the cabinet. The doors you show would (1) get in the way and (2) bang against adjacent cabinets. Shelves: My shelves were a heavy-duty plastic with a very small raised lip. They were very easy to keep clean and nothing fell through to the lower shelf or floor of the cabinet. I think an ideal lazy susan is a super susan (no center pole) + the door & shelves I had. Yes, there's a gap around the doors, but remember, these were not only builder-grade cabinets, but they were also the lowest rated cabinets by Consumer Reports at the time! Microwave: Try mounting it at an angle so it's easier to reach...like a corner upper cabinet down to the counter.
