I like the table, but it doesn't go with your other furniture, in my opinion. I think a glass topped coffee table or even a leather round ottoman would go better with the sofa.

LOL to everyone! It's interesting that a few of you actually liked it and others had such strong opinions. I like things that are a bit odd that you don't find in a lot of places but really think I'll pass on this as I'd hate to start picking rugs and window treatment with that as my inspiration.

Bru, funny story about the sofa. It's a Lillian August from Drexel Heritage called the Ruthann I think. I've always wanted a curved sofa and a one piece seat cushion. It was supposed to go in our great room and I bought other furniture and woven blinds to complement it. Trouble was our backs started hurting so much that we decided to buy a new one and move that into the living room.

It was kinda pricey (and having to pay for a replacement) so we cheaped out on the setee. It was from Overstock and under $200. Sort of the Prince and the Pauper I guess.

I love the table. I want the table! The shape is fabulous and it is just the right counterpoint you need to all the "expected" things you already have. Forget a glass coffeetable---you have enough glass with all those windows! Buy the table... it's a bargain at $379, and is a piece that you could use in any room in the house.

The table is only $175, no?

I agree with kswl -- it's unexpected. It's cool, and the fact that you keep going back to it means that you really like it. Pay no attention to the naysayers!

That settee is pretty too. I'm just about to order a couple of things I don't need from Overstock right now. :)

So, you're saying it's not comfortable or too soft? I love the style. I've looked and looked and can't find one like it Some I see are so curved people's knees would knock with other knees. LOL

I agree with robynpa, I like the black table. It sort of looks like a antique tray from the thirty's. It doesn't have exactly the same design as the tray's but the style is very similiar.

I'm sorry, but I LOVE that table. I do not think, however, that it would complement your sofa well. I do like the idea of an iron and glass coffee table--although I think you need one with enough heft to counterbalance your sofa, as well as some curves, to pick up on your settee. Maybe something like this (see link). :)

I love the table and it could be great however its too small for your room- it is not shown in front of the sofa in the CL posting it looks like it is front of an ottoman. I think it is teeny tiny. cute tho.

Actually, now I'm thinking that a round table might be best? Or at least oval--something with some curve. Here's sort of what I was thinking. Although this one has marble around the edge--but just to give you an idea.

I like the table, but I don't think it's for you. Seems too small and is too oriental for your room. Pass on it. But first, ask, what is it that really attracts you to it...the color? Shape? Legs? Then use that as your inspiration.

Oh, I would buy that black table in a heart beat!! It's cool! I'm not sure what you are intending to keep in that LR, but I would figure out some way to work that table in somewhere!

Btw, I have that French Heritage dining table. In case you didn't know, it does come in other finishes other than what is shown.

LOVE tables that Organic posted with the glass tops, they both would look wonderful with the curved sofa, which is just stunning. Personally I don't care for the Asian black curly table, just doesn't do a thing for me.

Gee guys, just when I was going to pass on the table. I could buy it for now and see if it works and move it to the den upstairs if it doesn't(then I could also buy the armoire maybe , yikes...have to save money for drapes). Things I like about it...as kswl said, it's not "expected". I want to break up all the seriousness that the two areas are beginning to have. I love chinoiserie and if I could afford it, would love to have the window treatments done in that style *sigh*. I like the shape, pattern and the fact that it is black.

OS, I checked the photo on craigs list again and it looks like it could have been taken at the foot of a bed, not sure (yikes, looking back that was cooper that mentioned that) I liked the two tables you gave links to. The first one though is another repetition of the curly qs that I have all over the house now so maybe it would look too planned. The second with the marble brings another look though. Not too expensive either.

Bru...hard to explain about the sofa. DH is 6'4 with a bad back. He was insistant that a tight back on a couch would be best for him. I knew better but he wouldn't believe me (new sofa is a firm, loose back). He always adds pillows to where his lower back meets it anyway. The back leans a bit backwards on the sofa, I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. The only sofa he was ever comfortable on was a sleeper. I bought him a wedge shaped memory foam cushion to stick under his cushion of the new one and now his legs have more room. Sorry, like I said, hard to explain.

Texashottie, is the table as pretty IRL? It took me months to decide on it. I really wanted burled wood but everything I looked at seemed to have something wrong. I want the dining room to look great as it is one of the only room that has a "normal" ceiling so decorating will be easier.

I prefer the second table with the marble/glass that organic_home linked. Ialso think the CL table is too asian for your room and too small.

I'm a newbie here, but a long time poster at the HGTV decorating board. I also love Chinoiserie, and have bits of it through out my house, which is eclectic to say the least.

Magnaverde gives out 'Magna Awards' on HGTV each January, and I was shocked and thrilled to get one for the living room in my 1930's Maine cape this year for this picture I had posted there. He liked the warmth of the room, including the Chinoiserie vintage desk you see in the front. It's unexpected, and I thought long and hard about buying it, too, but am SO glad that I did! Another vote for buying the table on CL!

Love it! But, do have concerns about the size for your pretty sofa.

Offer a price you are comfortable with if it doesn't work out. If the offer is accepted - good. If not, wasn't meant to be.

I just called and the poster wasn't at home but said he would email me the dimensions. He said it was probably about 3'x2'. Turns out he lives about 5 blocks from me which is a good thing. I can't buy much craigslist because most of it is in the city (Chicago)and I'm too chicken to drive in there.

He said he won't be home tonight but will be tomorrow night.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate your kind comments, and can't wait to hear about the table. That size would be perfect for my 'bowling alley' living room, which is 10 x 25 - front to back, and common in these old Capes.

I've made an informal dining area in the back of the LR, since it needed to be broken up into more than one area. The kitchen is through the doorway to the left in the link below.

Much of the furniture in my house is from CL, eBay, or like the desk above and the Irish pine corner cupboard you'll see in this pic, from a local consignment shop. I LOVE antiques and vintage, and you'll see I am NOT a minimalist, by any stretch of the imagination. (Lots of 'stuff', but to me, it's cozy.)

Parma, your poor husband sounds like me trying to find a comfortable position when I sit. I'm finding that also, the firm back sofa's lean back and that's not what I'll need. I'm thinking I may just get a sofa custom made to suit my back and and then I don't have to worry about it. LOL

I would totally get that table. It's unique. The other ones posted are nice too--but this Asian table has character. It speaks to me. ;)

I'm not sure how it will work with your sofa---is it too small? Did you tell us the size of your sofa?

Can you use it elsewhere? Like with a chair off in a corner and create a vignette? Layer it beneath a console or a desk in an entryway? Use it as a prop beneath a low window and accessorize around it?

If it was me, I would get it. But then again, I have a pretty empty house and I'm sure I could work it in someplace. ;)
