Granite: Kashmir White or Ivory Fantasy?
Comments (2)Hi! We have Ivory Fantasy and love it. I liked that it had more cream/tan/brown movement in it. We paired it with soft white cabinets and a butcher block on the island - so the creams/tans went well together. If I remember correctly, Kashmir White had more black and grey with flecks of garnet. Although I liked the stone, it didn't really match with the butcher block. I did find that the slabs of ivory fantasy varied greatly - so be sure to check out a few different slabs. We had our IF granite sealed, and no issues at all with any staining. And we have little kids - so lots of spills and sticky messes here! good luck with your reno!...See MoreWhite Lexus, Kashmir White or Bianco Romano - Opinions Please
Comments (4)Yes, we have the upgraded sealer but it was free with a promotion. I bought a cleaner that says it's a cleaner sealer so I use that to clean it with and so far so good. I've had spaghetti sauce, coffee, all sorts of stuff and so far no stains. I was thinking maybe you could get them to throw in that sealer for you. I don't know if this is true for your fabricator or not but they usually put some kind of sealer on and then want extra for the lifetime or in our case it was called a 15 year sealer. It's a money making thing for them. You could do it yourself for less. The sealers are available online. I don't think I would let that deter you too much but that is only in my opinion!!! I have Carrera in an upstairs bath and that is the one that is really worrying me! It's so pretty right now and I didn't put the upgraded sealer on it and have yet to do the sealer myself. It was helpful to read on GW that the sealer did not change the color and that was what I was afraid of. Good luck with your decision!! It's hard......See MoreShow Me Your Kashmir Whites :)
Comments (3)We were looking for white-ish granites, but decided against the Kashmir White because it has maroon dots (which are garnet chips, which sounds lovely, but the maroon dots just didn't go in our kitchen). We also wanted more movement, and Kashmir White is more consistently patterned which you've said is more your preference. Those kinds of choices are a matter of taste, so you really should look at the slabs of the various white granites to see which you like. Asking your "KD to price some granite" isn't very useful if you haven't seen the granite. Better to go to a stoneyard, either with your KD or not, and then take samples home and/or let him/her know which ones you liked. We also looked at Delicatus and Bianco Antico which are only slightly different from each other. We ended up with Alaska White which is similar to the Delicatus and Antico in that it has a white background with gray and black veins and striations. I found that the names don't mean much, as there isn't much consistency among stoneyards. E.g. the Delicatus at one yard looked more like the Antico at another yard, and vice-versa....See MoreBrown granite with white cabinets?
Comments (24)Here is the white paint thread. I remember it well but didn't follow closely because it was over my head and I have my cabinet maker's stock white, no name paint on mine. I just glanced briefly at the blog, but I love that kitchen. The wood is more copper in tone -- very different from a coffee tone, not really brown but orange. Would your dh go along with a granite that color? In my mind, wood and granite of the same color lend two different atmospheres to the kitchen. Both can work beautifully, but since you're talking about needing to convince your dh, it may not be what he wants. Here is a link that might be useful: White paint...See Moreice1
