Side of dresser done except grout.

I FINALLY got all the little bits and pieces glued down on the side of the small dresser. I took the picture with the dresser still laying on it's side. Need to add the mask after I set it upright. Need to add the little hanger for the mask too.

This is a close up of one end. The other end is about the same. I picked off the green circles. It was not working for me and added some more paisley. Guess a woman has a right to change her mind. LOL

The mirrors are very close together but the reflections makes it look like there are large gaps between them. I guess I do not know how to photograph mirror.

I think I will clean up the majority of the mess in my office and give the dresser a small break while I work on something smaller. This is a very intense project for me. Such tiny little bits to get and kind of design in such a small space.

Nice work! Is that paisely I see? Okay I'll have to get on the bandwagon and do some paisley like everyone else. Can't wait to see the grouted results. It's really going to pop.

I have been reading this thread with interest. My turn to chime in. Hubby and I each have a tiny closet for our clothes. My hanging rod is about 48" wide and his is a bit wider. We have shelves above for sweaters, in each of our closets. We each have a dresser for things that can be folded -- and we do fold everything we can, since there is so little hanging room. We don't have room for hampers in our bedroom. Our mud room is currently in the middle of a sloooow remodel. Until we get that done, we are making do. Next to our bedroom, there is a side room which will be come part of the bathroom when we remodel. Right now, it is our "laundry hanging room." I strung up laundry line from one wall to the next. When I take clothes from the dryer, while they are still damp, before they start to shrink, I hang them up to dry, then they either get folded or hung in the closets in our bedroom. In that same room, we have two pop-up hampers -- one for dark fabrics, one for light fabrics. And I have two laundry baskets, which I use to shuttle laundry to and from the mud room, where we have our washer and dryer. After our mud room remodel, there will be a bar to hang clothes for a day or two while they dry. We plan to use the pop-up laundry hampers in the mud room, next to the washer. But the real key is to do laundry nearly every day, so that it never builds up to a large amount. I tend to wash loads that are either all "bone dry" in the dryer, or "hang until dry." But a smaller load needs to be mixed, and I need to use a lower heat setting until I take out the shirts and pants which would shrink. Then I turn up the heat to finish the towels and socks and undies. I like the idea of filling the washer with part of a load as the laundry gets created, in order to wash it right away. I tend to drape my dish towels over the open lid of the washer, so that they are first in line to get washed. Thanks for all the good ideas.

Well, I colored the grout, and it is much darker now. Almost black, actually. New lesson learned: grout dries lighter, dye dries darker!!! I like it, though, because now the green, and other colors, really pop out. Before, the green was lost in the light gray grout. So, I am happy. I'll post another pic when the handle is done. It's funny, while I was dying the grout, the colors really started popping, and suddenly I could see where, on the back of the vase, I had used one tile that was a different purple from the rest(I had two purples, only used one). I hadn't even notice it before!

Thanks guys :) Here's a photo of the dresser: (wi-sailorgirl, can you believe I'm doing something so vintage?!?!?!? It's so not my usual style... but this is the second bath: it's the general household-use bath but ALSO my teen daughter's bathroom. And she REALLY didn't want sleek and modern!) I don't have a photo of the sides of the drawers, but they are mostly still raw wood, except the person who painted it last slopped the maroon paint around the edge onto the dovetail joint. I guess I will try to sand that off and then just paint the fronts. sailorgirl, the lower two drawers won't have glides, they'll remain as-is, with just old-fashioned wooden guide rails. The top two drawers need to be cut back pretty severely, and their center rail removed for the sink, so those two WILL have new, undermount glides installed. I'll try to take some pics of the drawer insides and sides, too... I have a gorgeous piece of Vermont White quartzite (pretty grey, actually) that's been cut to fit the top, with the curvy front, and a white Kohler undermount sink. I'm thinking about doing faceted crystal knobs, too. it's a real departure from my normal style :) I've just laid the radiant floor heat wiring last night and will be pouring the self-levelling compound today. Hi Colleen! I would love to see pictures as you go through your master bath remodel! I'll eventually be remodeling my main bathroom and the 1/2 bath in the master. In the main bath I'm taking out the tub/shower surround and replacing with a "petite" claw foot tub, no shower. New toilet, new vanity/sink, and a small baker's rack for extra storage. Putting in a medicine cabinet/mirror, frosting the window so I don't need a window treatment, and a new towel rack. Also new flooring, paint, fan, light. I'm not sure what I'm doing in the 1/2 bath, except I know I'm stealing a little room from the bedroom to put in a walk-in shower. SO...I'd love to see your progress and hear about the whole experience! Do you have colors and flooring, etc. picked out yet? Haha! Cathy--so true about the garden tub. :-)

Chris, That dresser is making me think I should rethink my new plates and do my craft room armoir doo now!! And I'm sooo loving the paisley!

Well, SHADES - this is simply divine. HOW can you LEAVE it now? I wish I could see this thing sitting upright. I can't imagine it's porportions from your description in the other thread. It'll be easy to grout - ahhhh - flat surfaces. REALLY pretty. Who doesn't love paisley?

DANG, I need a Morton! Great work ladies! I've spent the last 2 days cleaning out and reorganizing, or should I say organizing, my workspace, i.e. the shed. Now I'm too tired and sore to do anything.

Aw Thanks Everyone!! It has been fun and the encouragement goes a long way in keeping me at it.

Sirius. Yes it is Paisleys as best I can do them in such a small space. The whole side of the dresser is only 11 inches wide and the mirror is I think 4 inches wide or 3 1/2.

The mirrors were found out side the thrift store and when I asked how much they were the lady just gave them to me. I first thought it was one mirror 1/4 inch glass but when I got home it had dried and come apart and was two mirrors. I was a happy camper.

I cleaned up the office a little and put bunches of stuff away. I even stood the dresser up and put it back in place. I can work on the top of it as it sits. Then I will have to lay it back down to do the other side.

I think I would like to do one or two big paisleys on the top and all in glass no beads. I want the top to be perfectly flat except for the mini glass globs on the edges.I have also been a big fan of paisleys and had a picture of a mosaic one on my desk top for a long time trying for inspiration.

For now I have a couple smaller projects I would like to do and I did go out and shovel my way out to the studio to grab one of them to work on. Then I fell promptly asleep. Hubby plowing snow and had to get up at 4AM to get ready and of course I got up with him.

Shades your dresser is so great!! That paisley design is really good. The mirror tile doesnt look to far spaced to me...

I forgot to comment on your purse Bianchi!! Sorry Brain is not working well. Hubby's snow plowing is cutting into my beauty brain sleep.

I LOVE all the milli you used. And the colors are so pretty.

Gretch it is going to be awhile before it gets grout. I will wait to do the whole thing.The sides are not smooth and will be difficult to grout. I do want the top flat because I do set things up there.

Slow I will get a picture with it standing as best I can after I get dinner done here. It is a very odd little dresser. I think I just need a little break from it like you took on Lally.

Chris, your dresser is great, cant wait to see it done. Lots of wonderful colors. And YES, paisley is making a BIG comeback, I heard. I read it!

Here is the picture of the little dresser standing up. I had to pull it away from the wall to get the picture. One drawer with the gap had been chewed by?? Kid or dog so hubby cut it off for me and rounded the top edge of the drawer sides. Not sure if there ever was a top drawer. I use this little dresser in my office for office stuff.Guess I will have to do something to the drawers. Mabe paint and something simple around the knobs??

Clamity go for it!! Just look at your big project and break it down. One door or side at a time. For this I saved bits of glass and beads in a big storage baggie of about the same amount I used for the first side. This way it is all cut and beads strung Idea going. I just have to do it. Not going to make the other side exact at the first side.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooh - that did it. You've been calling it a dresser, and I was thinking a loooooooong dresser like you put a mirror above. This is a little chest of drawers - as we in the south call them. This makes your project even MORE beautiful now that I know what it is. What a wonderful job you're doing. And, how smart you were to prepare the tesserae for the other side. This is gonna be a show stopper, SHADES. GOOD WORK.

Oh, ver nice! have a better view now. Are you doing the top too? You could paint the drawers each a different color matching the different paisley colors. Its going to gorgeous, no matter what.

LOL Chest of drawers verses dresser. Difference is 7 extra letters in the title. I can see how it can be confusing. I seem to have found a whole herd of little chest of drawers when we moved in here. I bought them because this is such a small house and the little chest of drawers would fit in small places and hold lots of stuff. I bought 4 of them all for $5.00 or under. $2.00 for the little one I am working on now. LOL cheep is good!!!

Yes I do plan on doing the top and other side. Just right now I need a short break away from it. As it sits I can work on the top as I feel like it. I will need to lay it back down to do the other side.

Slow I tried to be sure to push glass up against the beaded strings to help hold the beads in place. For sure I will leave the wires or threads in when I do the other sie. I think that adds stability to the beads sticking down.I will be careful with the grout process.

I have a little one drawer box I am going to do right now and already have it laid out on my desk. Want to get it done so I can WORK at my desk. End of year taxes and cemetery books need to be done next week. Easier to glue the stuff on something that put it away and have to drag it all out again. That is my story and I am sticking to it. LOL

Oh I will wait to grout the chest of drawers until I have all three sides done. I have been grouting in my kitchen and it makes such a mess. Easier for me to make one mess than three.
