If it's to actually cook with, and not just look at, I'd put my Unicorn Magnum up against it any day. Grinding mechanism outperforms the Peugeot by a mile--see Cooks Illustrated review for substantiation.

That's a GREAT discount! Good for you Babushka! I have that same mill in pink. It was a special color they made many years ago. They also made a salt mill to match but by the time I decided to buy it there wasn't one to be found. Except in the UK! I had a friend over there who was coming to CA for a class. So she bought it for me in the UK. 9 months later she brought it to CA and then our mutual CA friend mailed it to me in MI. It was like waiting for a baby!!!

The Unicorn Magnum is just incredible! Hubby is a pepper hound, and this thing really grinds the pepper. Wish they were prettier, though...

sweeby, you're right, it ain't no piece of art, but boy does it grind pepper! And great customer service too--years after I bought one of our two grinders, a plastic piece broke. Even though it was years after the warranty had expired, they replaced the entire grinding mechanism and charged me exactly $4.00 for shipping. Awesome.

Related, but off topic a bit... Does anyone else find that with your remodel, now your dinnerware just doesn't seem to go with the new kitchen?

Part of the domino effect, I suppose. But every day I'm trying to talk myself OUT OF hunting for new dinnerware to go with the new kitchen. :-)

ANY pepper mill is an improvement over no pepper mill, as long as it works it's welcome in my kitchen. It's probably my favorite kitchen item! Nice find!

Babushka, I'm thinking of getting that mill for the lion logo alone. Is it made by the Peugeot car people? My DLH once sold cars. He came home one day with an old Peugeot he took as a trade-in. It was the most soulful car I ever drove. It broke my heart when we got rid of it.
