BHG's 2008 Country French Decorating Magazine

I can't find the original post about the latest issue of Country French magazine otherwise I would have added this to the end of that thread.

I went to Borders today looking for it but when I found it the cover looked very familiar to me, it's the same as the fall issue I have from last year. That's when I noticed the sticker saying Back by Popular Demand -- Second printing. Ahh pooh, this isn't a new issue after all, the Spring/Summer 2008 is the exact same one as the Fall/Winter 2007 issue, they just printed more copies. We'll have to wait until Fall of 2008 for an entirely new issue. A whole year between publications. :(

Oh well, at least I have Charles Faudree's book to look forward to.

Yep. I knew that. It's a good magazine and a real keeper. I had a dining set like one pictured in toile in the magazine and came so close to doing the slipcovers on it just like they did, but it was fairly uncomfortable to sit in for any length of time.

Love that look......

I wasn't happy when I got my March 2009 issue (in Feb) and found out that Country Homes was discontinued and I would be getting Better Homes & Gardens. Here it is June and I haven't seen any issues of BHG. I e-mailed them- they couldn't answer my e-mail (?) so I called them today (6/15). I was told I would get my first issue in OCTOBER! That is 7 months after my last issue of Country Home. Their "customer service" rep told it is was because they didn't have enough magazines yet for all the Country Home subscribers. And then she told me they were extending my subcription until 10/10- two months after my Country Homes subcription would have expired. How is that extending my subcription when you give me 2 extra months but I have to wait 7 months to get the 1st issue. I told them NO THANKS-even though it wasn't a big amount of money I told them send it back and keep your magazine,

Thanks for the encouragement! Sochi, I think you're right, that is the quintessential french light fixture isn't it? I tried to mix it up a little with the different pendants over the island, but I do really like the shape of that chandelier. I'm really looking forward to the rustic modern. A lot of the homes close the ski resorts near my home would really do well with rustic modern interiors. I can't wait to see the great ideas.

Those of us who enjoy decoration all suffer from liking a million different looks or styles. Unfortunately, to pull together a successful design, even an eclectic one, you have to have a plan. I've recommended a book, The Meghan Method, to many first-time homeowners. I think the book is pretty comprehensive when it comes to thinking about what you want and like in a design and how to put together a plan. Another new decorator, like you, talks a little about the book in the thread from this site that I've linked below and other experienced decorators have chimed in on other ways to think about inspiration and planning. It's tempting to try and make your decorating a one-stop shopping trip or a replication of someone else's design, but if you will think through what you really want and need, put together a budget and take your time, I think you will be able to pull together an interesting room that you can enjoy inhabiting. I agree that one way to be more timeless, is to go backwards and be more vintage. My kitchen is not in style, but my friends tell me they think it is cozy and pretty. The concept of the "dated" kitchen is something I am still trying, unsuccessfully, to wrap my brain around. The worn out kitchen - I understand that. Changing out expensive kitchen surfaces because of style - not getting it. I do get seeing something new, being able to afford it and replacing something worn out - just did that with my countertops and sink - love my new farmhouse sink. I am trying to imagine Olivia Walton saying - John, these cabinets are so 1930s. We need to update them:) I am not sure if the pocketbook of the average person, especially in a down economy, can sustain the cycle of kitchen trends. HGTV and the Internet give us a non-stop view into what we "ought to have" to supposedly make us happy - which is apparently related to being "on-trend". I do like my new sink very much - but it has not made me a happier person. I was pretty content before I got it. My most favorite magazine! I think I have 2 different issues and read them in bed continuously....well, look at the pictures continuously. The issue that features the home in OK of the famous builder Jack Arnold,and Charles Faudree's home(decorated the Arnolds'shome),is my favorite.

I can only imagine a house built by one and decorated by the other!

I bought this last weekend after reading the post here. I don't really decorate french country, but the cottage look carries over somewhat in that style. There is a stone cottage in the magazine that I love. I saw that it said reprint, but it's my first issue of this magazine and I really have enjoyed it! Some of the pictures further in the back of the mag are a bit formal for my taste, but the ones more to the front of the mag I loved. Great magazine. I should look into getting back copies.

Tina,I think there has only been one Spring/Summer issue and one Fall/Winter edition. I think it goes into re-print once a year. I've purchased the Spring/Summer issue twice,not knowing it was the same one I already had. About a year lapsed beforeI bought the second one. I'm going on line to find out what the scoop is.

This is an amazing magazine of 144 pages of beautiful pictures of Country French Decorating - gorgeous ideas for charming decorated rooms. It is the Spring/Summer 2008 current issue that is reprinted by popular demand in a second printing. A very inspiring issue of what makes your home that beautiful acquired French Country appeal

This thread is also 8th on the internet listing if you put in the name of the magazine. I thought it was funny that this particuliar discussion would come up. Makes me wonder how many other threads are on the internet if you use the proper wording.
