The dining room is a print of a map that was enlarged then cut into sixteen individual pieces. Each one is then framed. I don't have any more details on who/how the process was done. There seem to be a lot of companies that have the ability to print a picture on large canvases now...I guess you could use that as a start (canvasondemand.com, costco, etc.)

Thibaut and Bradbury bradbury are going to be what ends up in our home. If you look at the bradbury lines you will see that they are somewhat bold, but continue looking at each color story and you will see the fill patterns many of which I can see in your lovely home. In addition they are period appropriate which IMO is a priority for such a lovely space. Many of the bradbury papers have gold or copper colored leafs on the design. It's very similar to what an old paper would have, though applied differently and the shine they give really makes that old woodwork sing. Be sure to order (and yes you do pay for them) samples and as noted above, go for a simple pattern because they are very expensive and from experience I can tell you that hanging wallpaper with a distinct large pattern is a nightmare in a victorian or older home. Level, Plumb or Square....pick two and hope you picked the right two is our contractors saying. I hung a mural in DH's room and it was HELL! I mean sheer hell to hang. Corners are not square, the ceiling is not level...argh it was awful, but with a smaller pattern would have been so much easier!!!!

Moonkat, wow, it looks like you're making just great headway. I hope you're not overdoing it as I know overhead work is hard on you, especially on the neck. Ouch! If you have one of those seed-filled u-shaped neck pillows, you can put it in the microwave (for 1-2 mins, no more) just before bed and fall asleep with it wrapped around your neck. Yum. I do that every night all winter long. I'm so happy you got a sander you really like. The right tools make a huge difference to getting the job done -- or even wanting to. Hmmm... I ordered on the 26th, and the due date is "January 30, 2009 - February 4, 2009." I ordered through amazon.com but it's coming from the same place yours did. I am eager to see it - lol. ~~ Laurie, yes you can buy a kit (from http://www.elitetrimworks.com/home.php) but I was just doing my own thing and sort of copying the photo. I have a chop saw and I really like it, though I'm super careful with it because it could take off a finger in a blink. ~~ Helene, oh you did wallpaper over it. I am hoping after my mudding and sanding that my walls will be fine under the wallpaper. But I don't think they're good enough to do that other kind of panelling with the little boxes, at least not yet. The longer wall got super torn up from removing those boards. I like the idea of doing it horizontally. that could save time, too. I'll keep it in mind. ~~ Well, everyone, I am trying to decide if I can make the walls look good enough with the beadboard wallpaper, since the other way is so much work and I'm wearing out. What do you think? If you had a split entry, would you do beadboard panelling on the walls? Or opt for something more formal at your entry?

I did know that you were talking about the border being at the top - I was trying to express that a small molding would do an even better job of making the top of the wall look finished. Both borders and molding cover any irregularities in cutting and somewhat reduce the potential for separations at the top; the additional benefit of molding is that it covers any irregularities/imperfections in the joint between wall and ceiling. Crown molding does not need to be massive and fancy. There are super-simple crowns like this two-inch-tall one (all these pictures are from wishihadthat.com; this first one is stock number ET-8503): This one's taller but still wonderfully simple (ET-8573): A sort of molding called bed molding (don't ask me why) can almost be considered "miniature crown molding". Cove molding is an excellent alternative to crown, too. In my previous house I used a cove molding with a face of about 1 1/4" in my master suite-lette and it did a lot to "complete" the wall (it was almost the last thing to go in). I used such a small one because I had low ceilings (7'6") and the larger cove overpowered the room a little bit. A cove looks more like this (AB-210), with a simple concave curve, although this one with a four-inch face is bigger than I was envisioning; Home Depot/Lowes carry much smaller ones that are just fine for painting: What I would suggest is that you obtain samples of each sort of molding you are considering and tape them in place with low-tack painter's tape. Live with them a couple of days and see which one you like best. Oh, and another nifty thing about having molding on both ends of the paper - it helps hold them down so you're not so likely to get peelage at the ends. If your ventilation is very bad you might still get separation at seams, true, but if your ventilation is very bad you may well have far worse problems than your wallpaper peeling! :-)
