Hi Stacey, I am glad Pluckymama emailed me because I have been off of GW since March! - was just a little TOO addicted and a vacation away sort of curbed my need to be on here every two seconds. Anyway, I paid about $100/ sq. ft. - I did ask Gerrity if it was granite or something else and they pulled the bill of lading and said it was sold to them as granite and that it is from India. Perhaps it is quarzite - there are some parts of it that seem to have that chunk of quartz sort of look to it. I remain very happy with the counters. I am not the highest maintenance type of person about these things though. I found that when I had polished granite prior to these counters (we had polished uba tuba) that it drove me a little crazy when the counters were dirty because it was so readily apparent. The honed ocean green hides a lot of dirt/stains and it isn't until I rub my hand over the counters that I realize they aren't clean. On the flip side, when they are clean they don't have that gleaming super squeaky clean that the just cleaned uba tuba tops had. Grendal fly's counters are indeed very close to mine. About gerrity, yes they did the fabrication and install, etc. They did a nice job and I have nothing bad to say about them. They template in a different way than the previous company that put our uba tuba in. They used these stickers and a camera I think... not sure what the technical term is. they never actually measured anything, but it all came out perfectly. I will check back in here but am trying not to reignite my GW addiction... am trying to keep up with my housework instead, not to mention my kids. (but I surely miss chatting with my friends on here).

In my previous house (3 years ago), we had natural maple cabinets and Bianco Sardo/Luna Pearl countertops. There was actually a lot of ivory in the counters, so it went well with the cabinets. The cabinet knobs were black and our appliances were white; tumbled white/grey marble backsplash. I really liked the color scheme, it felt bright, but earthy. I don't think the dark green granite/natural maple is "out", it's just a look that's been around longer than the new white kitchens. To me, what's "out" right now are pickled oak cabinets and Corian counters. And in 10 years, my soon to be installed white kitchen will no longer be the rage, but hopefully not as "out" as acid wash jeans...

mamadadapaige has it honed and it is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! check out her kitchen. i tried to find it (in upstate ny) and couldn't. good for you!!!!
