Kemper vs Bertch

I am comparing 2 bids. One lady sells Kemper and the other Bertch. They are working on the same floor plan for me and price wise are comparable. (Kemper has upgraded to full plywood box) What I really can't find is the quality pice of the puzzle.

Can anyone help me decipher which would be a better value.

I spent a few moments looking at the construction details online, because that's usually where differences in quality show up.

Which Bertch line are you comparing? Marketplace has different construction details (not as impressive) as the Custom or Legacy lines.

The other question is customer service -- if you talk to other clients who went with one brand or the other, you may find that one is less likely to exchange a door front if you're not pleased with the grain of the wood, or something like that.

I had new Bertch cabinets put in in December. The Legacy line. So far I am very pleased with the quality. But my old ones were so terrible, I may not be a good judge! And I don't know Kemper at all.

Hi, I sell Kemper and can speak to the differences between Kemper Choice and Kemper Echo. The Kemper Choice has a 1/2" cabinet side while Echo has a 3/8" side. You can choose either plywood or particleboard. In Echo, you have to upgrade the drawer box to a full-extension glide while in Choice, it is standard. The standard Echo drawer box is partial extension with a side-mounted glide. There are very few door choices in Echo. Also, I don't think the finished sides are wood veneer in Echo. I'm not in my showroom, so I can't look it up. It's a relatively new line. Ask the contractor to price the Choice. In my opinion, by the time you upgrade the drawer boxes, the pricing isn't all that different between Echo and Choice. I actually have a hard time selling Kemper. Aside from a few door choices, I've found that my other line (Dynasty) gives so many more options at a similar price point. There are definitely some Kemper doorstyles that price significantly better but once you cross over the mid-point in Kemper, Dynasty becomes a much better value. The one thing I don't like about Kemper is the 1/4" reveal on the sides. Dynasty's is 3/32". Gives the side a much nicer look. Depending on your doorstyle there are probably other cabinets that offer a better value. BUT! The Choice line is a good cabinet - as someone said in an earlier post, it is similar to the others on the market. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Kemper vs. Wolf Designer Cabinets

I am also starting to remodel my kitchen and from what I understand there is Wolf Classic Cabinets which are builder grade and Wolf Designer Cabinets which are nicer. I realize this thread is a few months old but I am wondering what cabinets you ended up choosing and if you are happy with them. I am choosing between, Wolf Designer, Kemper, Decora, Waypoint Living Spaces (different from Waypoint builder grade). There is also Medallion & Shuler (which I hear are basically the same cabinet sold by different retailers). Another one, Kith by Eudora. Holy cow! I am looking for a mid to high quality cabinet. Doesn't have to be top of the line but I don't want junk. I am also going with a painted cabinet so I want to make sure the company does a nice job with the paints. Etc. The more I shop and read the more confused I get. Let me know if and what you decided on and I would love to see some pictures. Thanks!

I have Kraftmaid kitchen cabs and a Bertch vanity and wall cabs in a bathroom. Everything is fairly new, but so far I don’t notice any difference in quality. I would have gone with Bertch in the kitchen too, but the quote was so high. I went to Home Depot just to compare prices on Kraftmaid. It was several thousand cheaper, and then there was a sale going on so it ended up like $8k cheaper.

Laurie I had the same concerns. I saw a number of vanities from NY vanity in a showroom and was not impressed. No dovetail joints and the sliders for the drawers are on the side so you see the rails when the drawers are pulled out. They don’t slide or close smoothly. I just ordered our vanity from Yorktowne (same as Medallion).

I also have Bertch, mostly Legacy and one 4' section of Custom. We are very happy with our cabinets. We went with QS oak and they turned out beautiful.

Legacy and Custom have Blum hardware - full extension drawers with soft close. Those were must have features for us. Their website is not very good and does not point this out.

In another house I had redone a kitchen and put in a cabinet line made by Omega (Omega no longer makes this line). Those were great cabinets too - of course Bertch and Omega are each owned by two brothers so it's no wonder we are happy with both!

Bertch is a family owned company about an hour from my house and my cabinets were installed by one of their certified installers so I don't know if my experience would be typical but we didn't have any problems with cabs or finishes. Sorry but Kemper isn't sold in my area so no info there.

Kemper is a division of Masterbrand (makers of Diamond, Aristokraft, Schrock, etc) and most of the stuff for all the brands rolls out of the same factories. Diamond (I deal in Diamond and Bertch) is running a smoking deal right now on APC and also the finishes like Amaretto Creme.

While I think the quality is probably the same for Bertch Legacy and Diamond Distinction, I get a different feeling dealing with the two companies. You can tell Bertch is still family owned; there are almost warm fuzzies talking with dealer support staff. I haven't got that feeling from Diamond, but I also don't talk to them so much.

While I know the doors are the same (but with different names) in Diamond and Kemper, I'm not sure about the boxes.
Is it possible to look at the exact kind of cabinet you're getting in either line? All plywood, an example of an authentic end (if you're getting any), finished intertior? Something you can lift the countertop off of to look at the innards?

Bertch is also running a deal, now that I think on it. Free soft close drawers. Right now though, whenever I quote two kitchens (one in diamond, one in bertch) the diamond one is winning, especially with solid color finishes.
