So you have to type in each recipe to start with? How do I get them from my cookbook to my ipad? Sounds like a great idea, but a HUGE undertaking to get started.

I use a lot of online recipes. I just do it from my iPhone, and it's pretty convenient. However, most of the time I really prefer to print recipes out. I save the good ones in a binder. I'm a messy cook - almost every cookbook recipe I use has some smear on it.

Any articles or recipes I print out on paper. Then I just have a big mess of them, which is not a great system. I end up saving them to computer files, then printing them out again and again... Not a good system, I admit.

I love actual books and cookbooks. I thought it was my age, but my teenaged son says the same thing. So maybe it's a genetic eye-comfort thing.

I'm where you are rhome. I have a zillion cookbooks and a binder with papers clipped in and stuffed into the front pocket to overflowing! I like reading them on paper too, but I really need a better system!

I've started uploading many of my recipes to my Kindle Fire. I'm not retyping any recipes, only using those I already have in softcopy. I get so many recipes off the internet; only use a few old favorite cookbooks anymore.

I set it one of those acrylic cookbook holders. Very handy.

I use the Paprika app to store all the recipes I create and find online, adding my own pictures of the item when I finally get around to making it. I love it!

I use the iPad almost exclusively anymore. Bad thing is, though, I can instantly log into any # of online distractions (like GW :-) with a simple split second touch of a button.

My kitchen doesn't do iPad. My kitchen does Windows.

What would drive me nuts is the screen going blank all the time. I guess you can set it so it won't do that but it would sure run down the battery.

I do my recipes the really old fashioned way. I have a collection on my computer & a lot of cookbooks. If I have a fave recipe from a cookbook, I either find it online or scan it & put it in one of my many binders.

For the most-oft used recipes, I have them in doc protectors & use 2 of those big magnetic chip clips & put them on the side of my freezer which is next to the stove.

I like to read my recipes on paper too, either from a cookbook or a print out of an online recipe.

I LOVE my IPad in the kitchen. I use an app called recipe book that copies recipes from online sources or I can add my own recipes.

what's paprika? do i need yet another app? i use pinterest ...but if there's no image i'm outta luck.

You can always take a picture with the iPad of the recipe if you don't want to type it in. I went to an education program not too long ago where they ran out of copies of a case we were going to work through. Since I was taking notes on the iPad, I snapped some pictures of the pages, then opened them in my note taking app to add notes right on the picture as we went through the case! Then I could email them to my friend. One more reason I love my iPad!

Just thought of another way to input your cookbook recipes into your iPad...it has a pretty good camera - take a picture of the recipe?

KatesKouros, looks like Melaska got you there. I broke down and also bought the app for my mother ship (what I now call my apple laptop), and sync via cloud. I've looked at other apps (almost 2 yrs ago, so who knows how it compares to apps now), but I love how versatile and easy it is to use. The majority of the recipes I find online directly download into the app; the rest enter extremely easily through its built in save and enter function.

And using my own pictures...I'm in homemade cookbook heaven!

Settings>General>Autolock>Never. With 10 hours or so of battery life you can afford to lose a little while you cook.

I cook with recipes on the iPad if they're online. It sits up in the case and is pretty easy to read. I use the Epicurious app which has all the old Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazine recipes. I'm not nearly organized enough to enter in all of my offline recipes, and by the time you do technology will have changed and you'll have to do it all over again.

I have most of my favorite recipes in electronic form. I put them on my phone so I can look up ingredients I need while I'm at the grocery store. I don't know why I didn't think of taking pictures of the others...

I also love the Paprika app for iPad. The app keeps the screen from turning off, but you can change that if you want. It also has a browser and can capture recipes automatically from most of the popular recipe websites.

How do you deal with keeping a log of your recipes? I have lots but I forget what I have...do you have a master list? What's funny is years ago, I got this really cute recipe keeper book where you wrote the name of the recipe, what cookbook it's in & page #. Wouldn't you know it - I lost it :( So much for that!

My favorite way to keep recipes is scanned and dropped into evernote. I have evernote on my laptop and there are apps for smart phones. I also copy recipes from the internet and drop them into evernote. The beauty of this is that they are fully text searchable and accessible from anywhere with internet. It was actually easy to get my most used recipes scanned - my 6 yo scanned them for me. :)

I was thinking of scanning my recipes to pdf files. If I eventually get an ipad, will I be able to open them? I've heard ipad is not compatible with Adobe, but I've never looked into it.

Also, if I buy an eCookbook, is it as good as having the real book?

Yes, there are innumerable PDF readers for ipad. I prefer goodreader myself, but there are dozens to choose from.

Not sure what you mean by "not compatible with adobe". You can't run any desktop program on any tablet (from any maker) because they use a different operating system, but Adobe has quite a number of programs for ipad, including ones that let you use the ipad to control the desktop version of PS.

iPads don't do Flash, but that's not much of an issue anymore. For large commercial sites that still have flash content on their web pages there's often an app you can download that lets you view their content on the ipad.

I often use my iPhone to use recipes from sites like AllRecipes or Epicurious while cooking, but there are iPad apps for these, too. I also used my stored WeightWatchers recipes.

Good reminder to just change the settings temporarily so the screen stays on. I have a cookbook stand that should work with the iPad, too.

I'm with gregincal and use Epicurious. It's there in the grocery store on my phone, it's there whereever there is a screen. I like trying new recipes for whatever looks great at the farmer's market. Plug in an ingredient or two, a style if you like and up come recipes. With reviews. Saving favorites is easy. It has really helped in a transition from meat centered to more vegetable based meals.

I was a fan of PDA cookbook until the demise of the palm platform. I still have my favored recipes on my computer but not on my current phone. I could buy their cloud version, but am enjoying winging it with (free) Epicurious too much.
