I like the black one better, Shee. The brown lines are too contemporary and the shade's too large, I think. I missed your other thread, but the black one is okay. If you found a non-tapered, that might be nice too.

I prefer the black shade too. I think the brown shade is just a bit overwhelming for the lamp, and that it will blend into the wall too much. I'd stick with the black.

Don't care for the gold-brown shade on your lamp. The size and shape don't look right for the base and it's sitting too low, also.

I'm not sure what size is best for the lamp. The black one does look a bit short to me, but I'd just try a tall finial on it and see how that goes. The color and shape are very good with the lamp.

Funky - C&G is off the Paxtonia Exit. If you go on 22 toward Michaels it's on the left. The location is a bad spot. I never knew how to get back to it! You have to turn at the light right after the Goodwill and head that way. They have the big lion statues out front.

Squirrel - Oh I know! I was looking for that other shade but didn't see anything that I thought would work. There's a lot of smaller ones. I did see some drum shades but the length wasn't longer than the current one I have. Plus I wasn't wild about a drum shade on that lamp even though I was told that was probably the original style. The black shade I did buy two tall finials and the stupid things broke! That's why I ended up with a stubby one. I'll look around some more. Maybe I'll switch one of the others out just to get an idea.

Yes, the brown shade is not so good with the lamp. You could get away with that height IF the shade had a lot more taper, but the almost drum shape overwhelms the design of the lamp. And the tone of the brown makes the metal of the lamp look green, which you probably don't want.
The black shade is very nice, and the only think I'd consider that would be a bit better is to find one that is the same height, but with straight sides, rather than the curve in the profile, and then follow squirrelheavan's advice to add a stronger finial.
Here's a lamp of mine that is similar, so you can see what I mean.

Now that B-Mom mentions it, that's probably such an (American?) traditional looking standard shade you've got on there. Try one of the black paper shades, as she suggests, to see what that looks like on the lamp. It looks like such a tall lamp with that base, though!

I'm wondering if it would help to put a shorter lamp on the table, with that shade. Forget quite what the other one lamp you have looks like, next to the new painting and web chair. Maybe swap that lamp out to see it there? Or, this larger fixture might nicely fill the space at the window if the table there isn't too small.

Bronwynsmom - I like your lamp! I didn't even think about the possibility of the lamp looking green. Not what I'm aiming for! I think one with straight lines would make all the difference in the world and is what I was originally looking for. I couldn't find ANYTHING in the stores. Even the online store I ordered this one from didn't have any. I will keep my eyes open.

Back when I bought this lamp (for $10 at the local thrift store) I saw one on ebay almost exactly like it for like $65 that also had a shade. :) I would've been better off just getting that one

Squirrel - I can't find any shades like that. Maybe one will pop up when I least expect it. After a month or so I couldn't stand having a shade on the lamp and just ordered the black one.

Here's the deal with my current three tables in the room. The one in front of the window is the tallest, round one (with the black shade) is next, the rectangular one by the web chair is the shortest. Tallest lamp is the brass one so that's why it's where it is. I thought the brass lamp looked huge standing on the table in front of the window. I'll take some pics of musical lamps later. Here's the one beside the web chair.

I meant both, and am getting confused too trying to write it out! Thought maybe the web chair lamp would be shorter than that one, which does look a bit lanky with its smallish shade and maybe more pronounced on that smallish table. Maybe its dark shade will look good where the burgundy shade was being considered, if the overall size of the lamp works. Or, does it work on the window console table?

As far as trying the dark shade on the other lamp, it looks like the cream shaded lamp takes an oval shade.

I think the height of the black shade where the web chair is will be too tall. It's probably at least the same height as that table. I'll take pics of the lamps moved around later!

When you say cream shaded lamp I'm assuming you mean the one by the window right? Not the gold one by the web chair that I was going to buy a red shade for..?

ha, this is so confusing. It does look like the brass, black-shaded lamp would be too tall for web chair table. Maybe use it at the console table in front of the window? That area needs a good sized lamp.

The cream-shaded lamp is the one near the web chair, lol.

Quick synopsis -- just play with the pieces and see what you think, lol. Hard to get it out!

As I look at your arrangement, the problem I see is that the lamp overwhelms that lovely little table, and makes it look too small.

I would look for an extremely simple, smaller, fatter lamp...ideally, one with an uncut glass or crystal base...that doesn't compete with the marquetry on your table, and lets it be the decorative star.

Then I would hang a pair of small, delicate botanical prints, one over the other, starting no more than a foot above the tabletop, and extending above the top of the lamp, to create a balanced vignette while giving you the light you need.

wow, missed that last photo of the brass lamp. Definitely needs to go elsewhere. Looks like a tough lamp to shade, with the lamp being a hybrid.

Maybe some drippy candle covers and low wattage candelabra bulbs, no shade? If that works. Used like a candelabra instead. Except it's so tall. The shade's actually looking too big for the base up close. The lamp looks top heavy. You might also try something similar to your bunny in front, to overlap and bulk up the base area a bit by obscuring its dimensions.

Just some thoughts.

Just to help clarify. Hopefully. The console table in front of the window IS the table that's in the close up picture. The round table is what the brass lamp is currently sitting on. Here's some room shots. That close up pic is why I didn't think it would look nice in front of the window...because it's all like big table, big lamp.

Lol the hybrid lamp! The candle covers, I can't believe I'm admitting this but they're rolled up pieces of poster board! The size of the hole is larger than any candle sleeves I can find anywhere. I actually did buy some fat candles at michaels to stick in but it seemed if the cats even ran by the table fast they'd fall over. It was driving me crazy. The poster board was my alternative for now. (See why I should've bought that ebay lamp!) :)

Bronwynsmom - I like those lamps. Part of my dilemma is if I don't use that brass lamp in the LR I don't know where else I could use it. And I really like it. Where do you put something that tall?

I see. It's the inlay table that's in front of the window. Looks like an octagonal under the brass lamp, which could really use a smaller lamp. The variation in height, from the window lamp, would be nice, too.

Not quite understanding why poster board and actual candles were going into the 'candle' cups. Just be sure you don't have a fire hazard there with the poster board if this is a working lamp.

Squirrel - The poster board is there because if not there would be nothing in those space. There's no electric in them.

This is right after I brought it home. Looks like there a little glue around the edges... The harp that's on there now is actually an inch shorter than this one. It looked even worse with the taller harp and the shade.

that one is 13" Top x 16" Bottom x 11" Height

That one might work. I think I was going off guidelines I read online for the right size shade.

Here's the shade Nanny2a found, about the same size as yours. There's a finial added, and one pic is showing a bit more of the cardboard, uhhh, candles! like B-Mom's lamp.

The base is getting more weight with that photo there though.

Mrstan - LOL small world! This was actually only the second time I was there. I went there hoping they knew a bunch about rewiring and lamps in general. I was wrong. I was wondering then how they were staying a float!
They had quite a few cute smaller lamp shades that I really liked. I was trying to think of where I could use them!!
