How about this?

Use that remarkable fragment as your starting point, but use a purply gray instead of a blue-gray like that one, and try to balance the amount of each color in the same proportion shown there.
Choose a gray that goes toward purple in your kitchen, and then pump up the purple for your dining room.

An example of that scheme might be Sherwin Williams Swanky Gray SW 6261 or Unique Gray 6260, which is a little lighter, or 7079 Ponder or Minute Mauve 7078 - those two are pinker than the first two.

Then for something on the pink side for your dining room, Dressy Rose 6024 or Socialite 6025 (Socialite is more saturated). And less pink but still definitely purple, Veiled Violet 6268 or Beguiling Mauve 6269, or if you want something really deep and moody blue, Exclusive Plum 6263.

The orange wood floor is the problem child that won't play well with others in your scenario of using the lino scrap as inspiration. I'd skip it and look at doing something like a slate floor in tones of grays and blues and purples and burgundies. Most slate will have enough orange tones in it to coordinate well with the other orange wood in your house.

The flooring is in the garage waiting to be installed so that can't be changed. I don't have to use the lino as inspiration. I just can't find anything else and we thought it was really cool.

Here is your inspiration photo....if you really like this, you certainly could use this as your inspiration piece as well. It is very different and very attractive.

Your granite is pretty busy though so you'd probably not want to go so busy with the backsplash...using a solid color with the colored pencil in the tile would work very well.

With your linoleum piece, I can see where the floor color would blend with the gold accent in the linoleum, and the rest of the colors would work well.

I agree with Annie that what you have shown us shows that the floor, as it stands right now, is a problem. It is orange while the cabinets are showing a mauve undertone. I don't see any undertone in the sample of the floor that you have shown. Could you post a pic of a bigger piece of the floor alongside the cabinet sample. I think what you will have to do is to see if there is an undertone in the floor that can tie in with the cabinets that you can use as a jumping off point for a colour scheme.

Somehow you will have to figure out a way of downplaying or neutralizing the orange of the floor. Sorry.

We have Bruce maple as well and (I don't remember the stain) but it was really important for us not to have any pink or orange undertones in the floor. And that is really hard to do with any hardwood floor. Think of the goldy/reddish tones of sap - that's what you're dealing with.

OK lets ditch the purple backsplash. I think a base tile in gray or green. I have a few pics and they both look good.

I never noticed there was gold in the lino. I had to go back and look at it again, huh.

I'm going to check out those SW colors mentioned above. I like the idea of more violet grays or just not blue grays.

I will see if I can get another photo of the flooring. It does match all the hardwood and woodwork in the house. And I thought it looked good with the cabinets. But like I said before, the cabinets seem to change the more I look at that sample. Either way I have to work with it.

DH needs a decision on paint ASAP. Especially the ceiling and he doesn't want to paint it white. And the kitchen paint will touch the green paint in the staircase so they have to coordinate. I will try to post that color later.

I agree with the others that your floor is the odd man out in the above color scheme. If you need to choose a cclor ASAP, why not go with a cream color and just wait until you find the right elements for your kitchen? I would not rush into a backsplash or strong wall color at this point.

Green walls? That's going to be difficult to work in with the burgundy cabinets and orange floor. I think it's al going to be a lot more colorful than you think, and none of it works with the granite you've got in mind.

Here are some fabric samples with those colors in it that can provide some inspiration. I do think the suggestion to paint it a plain warm cream and choose something like a plain cream quartz counter is the best idea to keep things from fighting too much.

And that last one inspired me to look for images in Nature that combine your colors.

Working so have to be quick. Have a photo of our cabs in a real kitchen with hardwood floors. The floors look just like our southern yellow pine that is through the house. The maple floor we choose seems to blend in perfectly with the pine. The reason we choose it.

The cabs don't always look purple. It didn't when we chose it. Sometimes its just plain brown with yellow.

I love autumn leaves! Those pics show red, purple , orange all living happy together at least to me.

If I use one of these photos for a guide can't it work?

Do you know an artist that works in mixed media? I could see an artist working with various objects and painting to credit a collage, a mixed media art piece using your old floor segment. Use it somewhere in the house, not necessarily in the kitchen.

If you already have the flooring, then that is your starting point. Work around that color.

It looks like the have the same color cabs that you want. The orange-y tone is in the slate on the floor where you would have the wood flooring....perhaps you can use the slate colors as a backsplash or some multi-colored tile in the same colorway. If in the backsplash though, you'd want a quieter counter top.

Before I go any farther on this journey we need to finalize our granite choice. Wednesday is the day. We have been going back and forth between a white granite like bianco romano, BA aka white diamond, and black as in Labrador black. Black is our prefered choice but DH has issues with black counters, light backsplashes, and dark cabs. So if we do go with black the BS will have to be more medium tones or a blend of light to dark. My concern was it would be too dark overall. I'm thinking that going with black will help with the other color choices. Thoughts?

Annie that photo is great. Those cabs really look like mine, door style and color and the "orange" does look good with it. Even with a black counter I think that would work.

I really think the autumn leaf colors is the way I should go.
I will post what we finally decide.

Fall colors run through Tramonto

That Tramonto is To Die For! I'm not granite's biggest fan, but that could change my mind......

The Tramonto granite has some wonderful colors. Would that work with her flooring she says she has ready to install?

So quick update. Both my laptops got a virus. Have been off line for over 24 hours.

We did not make a decision. Looked at everything. Keep coming back to blacks and whites. We love the rich look of black with the cabinets. The whites make it pop.

So Bianco romanco is out. All sent back to supplier, bad quality. Bianco Antico aka white diamond still in the running. Has white, black, orange/red dots, all other stuff I can't describe. Orange would go with the floor? Usual BA.

I don't think I mentioned we have all black appliances.

Labrador and cambrian black looked good. We love black.

Then we saw super white quartzite. Looks great with cabs. Very expensive.

What to do?

oh, and while in the showroom and yard, not once did the drawer front show its purpleness. I tried to show how it has this undertone but it would not appear. Tried different lights, in, out, bright sun, shade, next to just about every granite. It just looked brown today. No one else could see the purpleness I swore was there.
