First Timer doing a kitchen remodel

I have enjoyed the advice given here and have a few questions of my own now that we are contemplating a kitchen remodel.

We have lots of natural wood trim throughout our home so are sticking with natural wood cabinets (I love white and painted cabinets but that won't work for us).

We have hickory flooring in adjacent rooms as well as rough green - brown slate in the entry and our home has a more or less open floor plan.

My questions:

1.How can I tie the cabinets into the flooring? For instance, if we redo the light hickory for the kitchen flooring, what kind of wood cabinets would look best, putting into consideration that we don't like real rustic looking hickory in cabinetry. We are also wanting to go fairly light in cabinet stain as well.

2. We love the look of soapstone but have heard that it can be problematic with cracks, wearing and maintenance needs.

3. Also, any bargain 48" gas ranges out there?

Thanks
