I consider stainless a neutral.

I just replaced a perfectly good 8 year old Bosch, that was black because I inquired about refacing it with stainless--turns out it would have been around $300+ for the parts!

If you think that you might at some point, while you are living in this house replace the other appliances, then plan ahead! I didn't do that. I went with black because it blended better with the dark oak--not so much with the newly white painted oak!

Also, you never know, if you go to sell the house what will people think? 1. "The appliances don't match" or 2. "At least the dishwasher is new we don't have to replace it" (because I'm convinced people think anything that isn't stainless isn't new).

I think you can do either. The white appliances are all at counter level and above, the DW below counter. Both finishes are neutral. Can you take one of those panels and a can of stainless look spray paint and try it on before you take the plunge? Or take a photo and edit in a stainless DW. See what you like best.

I don't think it matters. I do think you'll have less smear problems with the white dishwasher door: I looked at my stepson's SS one and it looks terrible with water marks all over it. Maybe it wasn't a good quality finish.

I had bisque appliances and had to replace just my dishwasher. I decided to go with stainless because I hoped quite a ways down the road I would replace the other appliances. My dishwasher was the only appliance on that side of the kitchen. After one year my fridge started to have issues and I really wanted all stainless, so I ended up replacing them all. For me, having the single stainless made the other appliances look dingy (keep in mind they were bisque not white) and old. I really loved the stainless so much that it really made me want to replace the others while they were still functional. So, just keep in mind that if you do select stainless, you might find yourself wanting to replace all of the appliances sooner than you originally intended.

I really don't think I'm going to replace the other appliances, though. I inherited my refrigerator from my mom, it was less then a year and half old. It was bought in August 2005 and is a Kenmore Elite.

I replaced my stove with a white smoothtop two years ago. Well, the smoothtop is black speckled and the rest is white. I went with white because the refrigerator and OTR microwave were white.

One month after I got a new stove the microwave went out and I replaced it with a convection one that is also white. So they are all fairly new and I would feel silly replacing them. I don't really mind the white.

My house in not high end at all so I don't think that matters.

If you definitely do not want to replace the appliances, my preference would be for them to match. (Not necessarily the same brand or anything, but color.) But that's just me.

I think that you "could" do stainless, but I'm not sure why you would want to if you're not changing out your other appliances. I have stainless, and while I love the way it looks, it will get streaky from wet hands all the time. I keep a towel on the door handle and that helps with the drips, but it's definitely more upkeep than white, which looks so nice and clean all the time!

Thank you everyone for your opinion. I guess one reason I am considering stainless is that I think it will blend better with my cabinets then white would.

I used to have a mid-range stainless DW and absolutely hated the way the front panel would streak every time I used it. It showed every water mark and steam drip, and almost never looked clean. Just fyi. I went with a paneled DW in my remodel to avoid the same issues.

Go white to match the other appliances.

Another vote for white so all the appliances match but stainless would not look bad either but why spend the extra money when all white would look the best if you are not changing out the other appliances..

I had a mismatched SS DW, thinking that others would get updated.... It always looked tacky. My update did not happen until the DW died, (go figure).

Based on my "tacky looking" outcome, DO NOT GET UNMATCHED SS. Get white DW to match the rest of the kitchen.
