Julieckmo- wow, you have alot stored in that corner cabinet! Way better than a lazy susan or the black hole blind cabinet that I have now. Tracie.erin - since you showed me that recessed pantry, I've been obsessed with it. It seemed like the perfect solution. Unfortunately, DH is totally against for now. Something about having to relocate something important that's in that wall. Frankly, I have so much on my plate right now with my son, that I don't have the energy to fight with DH over it. But I'm still obsessed! Lysia - I am struggling with what to put in the butlers pantry area. One on hand, it should be something that is helpful to have near the dining area. Also, it can be something that is ok to be somewhat separate from the rest of the kitchen, which is why cleanup makes alot of sense. But most importantly, it shouldn't be something that would obstruct so ideally, the DW nor the fridge should be there. I think you have me convinced on two sinks though. Lavender Lass - you and Lysia make good points about not having enough room behind the island. But without those cabinets along that wall, I know I won't have enough storage. So the island probably won't work. I'm starting to think I should just give up! I'm going to fiddle with cabinet depths and aisle widths and see if I can come up with anything else. But I'm doubtful. Buehl or Williamsen or anyone else, if you have any other ideas please let me know. Thank you all so much for your help. I may have pulled the trigger on another poor layout if it wasn't for your insight.

To post pictures: 1. Open an account on a free picture hosting site such as Photobucket, Webshots, Flickr, etc. 2. Make your album "public" so others can see your pictures .....In Photobucket: Click on "Account Options" (top right corner) ..........Next, click "Edit Album Settings" ..........Then, where it says "My album is", be sure it says "Public" (if not, change it to "Public") 3. Using camera software that came with your camera or other software like Microsoft Picture Manager, resize the picture so it's less than 600 pixels in both directions. It's best to resize based on a percentage (like 20%) so the picture dimensions remain consistent (not stretched out vertically or horizontally!) 4. Upload the picture to your account (see #1) 5. If you use Photobucket, when you see your picture on the site, copy the link from the box labeled "HTML Code" (I don't know where the link is in Webshots, Flicker, etc.--I use Photobucket) .....[BTW...You can also resize your pic on the Photobucket site] 6. Simply paste the link from the "HTML Code" in your message...you're done! When you preview your message you will see the picture. Is this understandable??? [Please let me know if it's not so I can re-work the instructions!]

Oh, my, that's an itty bitty pantry . . . I think you'll be lucky to get all your regularly used non-perishable foods in there, and so I wouldn't try to put appliances there. Given how limited your space is, I'd go with Roll Out Trays to maximize your storage. Even though they add expense, I think it'd be worthwhile in that space. I'd do custom-sized roll out trays (manufacturers come up pretty quick via google, but I can't vouch for any in particular, but I'm sure someone here will give you a good lead.) It looks to me like you can get them custom made at your exact width (and your exact depth up to 26"), with full extension glides, for somewhere under $70-100 per tray. I'd just spend what it took and get them all made. Assuming 8 ft ceilings, I'd do trays about every 12" (varying from 10 - 16") top to bottom, on both sides of the L. You might save a little $ by going with 3/4 extension glides if you are going maximum depth, since they wouldn't be able to extend all the way anyhow with you standing in there, too. . . Here's one idea.

Your pantry is 5'6" wide. I'd want at least a 3' wide aisle. So... If you want shelves on both sides, I would put 12" deep on both sides - that leaves you with 3'6" of aisle width - a nice width. It's wide enough to allow you to bring in grocery bags w/o having to juggle them. It's also wide enough to easily carry appliances in/out. I'd consider the cabinet/counter idea on the short side. It gives you more options for storage. You could have a 36" wide set of drawers plus nice counterspace. You could put upper cabinets above for more storage. +++++++++++ IF there's a refrigerator in the pantry...it shouldn't go right up against the wall where you show it b/c the wall is deeper than the refrigerator's box and that means the doors and handles will not extend into an open space and the doors won't open fully (depending on the # of doors and the location of the hinges.) I suggest putting in a 12" wide pullout utility cabinet for broom, mop, etc. b/w the wall and refrigerator. The shelves on that wall would then begin next to the refrigerator. I had a thought - you might consider an 18" wide standard base cabinet next to the refrigerator for landing space for the refrigerator. Maybe have 12" deep shelves on one side and 9" on the other to provide better aisle b/w the refrigerator & shelves on the opposite wall. These are two options I was thinking of with the refrigerator: Option 1: Landing space b/w wall & refrigerator; no utility cabinet; 21" of open shelves above the landing space Option 2: 12" utility cabinet b/w wall & refrigerator; 18" cabinet for landing space next to refrigerator; top shelves from refrigerator to bottom wall.
