A slight cabinet color problem - what would you do?

Hey everyone...

So I finally finished my week of painting cabinets and I rehung the doors last night. And I, unfortunately, am in a bit of a pickle.

When I chose the color for the cabinets (BM Glacier White) I was trying to choose a muted cream. The last time I had painted the cabinets, I painted them a very bright white and I had felt the color looked just a little too sterile with the new laminate countertops. All the other colors on the strip were warm creamy colors, the sample itself was warm (regardless of the name) and reading about other people's experience with the color and seeing pictures... it seemed perfect. So, I got it mixed in the cabinet coat, and that's where I think things fell apart a little.

I'm not sure if the CC base is different than the Aura base, but after two coats I am left with a cool white with almost a green-looking undertone. Is it muted? yup. But my laminate is VERY warm and so is the wall color of the adjacent dining room. When you look at the kitchen quickly, you don't really notice it... the color is "off" by ever-so-little. But since I am such a perfectionist, I notice it. And dwell on it. And I dreamed about it last night. *sigh*

I don't know what to do. My inclination is just to live with it a while and see if it changes. Maybe over the next week the color will develop a little more. Maybe once I put in the new floor and backsplash it won't be so noticeable. I really hope that's the case.

I was going to do a beadboard backsplash and paint it (this is a very low budget remodel) but now I don't know how to chose the paint for the backsplash. Do I try to make it work with the existing color on the cabs, or do I just try to match it with the countertops and hope that the cabs don't end up looking even more glaring?

The other thing is this... I have half a gallon of the cabinet coat left. My husband really wouldn't want me spending more money on these cabinets. I also have some left over BM Hot Spring Stones- the warm greige that have in our dining room. If I put a splash of that into the cabinet coat and did one more coat, do you think that would warm it up just enough to counteract it? Would matte Aura and the CC be compatible for mixing?

I would be afraid to mix the aura and cabinet coat--based on nothing except not knowing what could happen and fearing all my work painting would be ruined if there was a reaction.

What about living with it a bit and if you still don't like it, bringing the 1/2 gallon of cabinet coat back to the store and have them add something to warm it up. This is assuming the 1/2 gallon is enough to coat all the cabinets again and still have a little left for retouches.

I dont think you should mix these 2 types them unless you can do a real test. get a big wood board and prime and paint it (as you have done) then mix a color you like a paint it. then let it sit upright in the kitchen with the lighting and all as it would be IRL.
Also, i wouldn't wait too long to recoat. once the paint cures, you will have to re-sand to add more coats of paint.

Can you post a pic? A little confused with the way you are described the pullout with 2 drawers on the pullout and then shelves. Is the bottom shelf the bottom drawer? If you post a picture, maybe there is something that can be done to modify your existing pullout. Not sure if it is one of the pre-fab ones like the rev-a-shelf. I have a 15" pullout. Its full height, no drawer above. Its made to look like a drawer and door front. Inside there are three rollout drawers. The drawer/door front is attached to the bottom drawer. So when you pull out the drawer front (Since I only have hardware on the drawer front piece) the bottom drawer rolls out. Then I have two other rollouts that are independent. One is up high at normal drawer height and I currently have my spices there. Then the second rollout has my oils, vinegars, salts, etc. In the bottom rollout that is connected to the drawer/door panel, I currently have grains like Pasta, Rice and sauce. I had the sides drilled out so I can always move the two inner rollouts up or down. I just started using my Kitchen a few weeks ago and probably still need to move and shuffle some things around.

Lyfia, I laughed when I saw your post, my SW swatch book is what got me into this mess ;-) We picked a second color this morning in the same vein, but darker: SW Lanyard. Here it is: I think this works for us. We have three doors and trim in the green room to paint, and hope we can also use the same color for a the other doors in the house for continuity's sake. You can see it on the door between the kitchen and the dining room. The top half is the Restrained Gold, the bottom is the Lanyard. The dining room is RL Maleya Red, and we are planning on keeping that color. Unless I find the perfect shade of eggplant purple! Thank you all for your help and advice!

What countertop type/ style/color would you do with this combo?

Just a thought. Do you have to have some of the caramel in the counter? Once you choose a counter with caramel, your counter becomes less neutral and perhaps less timeless. I know you have caramel tones in your wood, but wood is supposed to be neutral so your are not required to repeat.it. Not saying the caramel is not nice and would not look great, but I just want to be sure you see that you could go with a counter with more neutral colours in it if that was what you find. The bianco drift I posted does not have carmel in it, but aside from that is similar to your inspiration photo you posted above. Carol

Everyone .... THANK YOU !!!!! I am glad to know I am not crazy for even thinking of doing this. I will break it to painters tomorrow that they get to do it over. They won't be thrilled but they will do it gladly as they are good employees (this is one of the guys we had to hire to supervise because our builder was incompetent). They are not the one's who goofed. So we will repaint. I appreciate all the support and will say the creamy Dover White is beautiful. I can't wait to share pics. Habitat for Humanity is a great idea. I'd ask the BM dealer for advice. I don't think you can mix CC with a latex paint.
If you have a half gallon, perhaps a quart in a slightly warmer tone could be mixed with it to make enough for another coat.
