Old fashioned good quality or Up to date lesser quality?
Comments (29)As hubby, tongue-in-cheek, likes to say about me, "there's nothing too good or too cheap for her". It really depends on the WHAT! Before we spend on a product, service or an experience, we like to consider what will we gain by making the spending decision. We like to be well-informed consumers (especially when something is a large amount of money) and will choose from both categories - old and new. I wonder if this is a right-brain / left-brain question ;?) I'm more of a logical thinker than emotional, so that accounts for many of my choices. I couldn't care less if someone sees me in a $2 (on sale) white T-shirt from Wal-Mart worn for working out (I even have some I bought for $1 at Wal-Mart). A $300 work-out outfit doesn't make me sweat any less or perform any better. While I'll spend a LOT for SmartWool athletic socks which feel better and out-wear cheap cotton socks any day, and I buy quality shoes for working out, and for everyday use. We had a lovely antique bedroom suite, but we got tired of the upkeep, drawers that stick, and the size of it, so we donated it to a Hospice auction. Replaced it with minimalist furniture we purchased from Aldi at a fraction of the price they were selling the same stuff for at the expensive furniture store down the street. -Grainlady...See MoreNeed options for good quality, mid-range cabinet brands
Comments (48)@Wes Hunt I believe Shiloh does an industry-standard post-catalyzed conversion varnish, so hopefully the finish will be more durable for you than Kemp would have been. As I'm sure you're aware, there are several different levels of pricing within the lines offered by W. W. Wood Products, Inc., Shiloh's parent company. Shiloh for some reason hasn't amassed many reviews around the web at the time of this writing outside of those on Houzz, but there are several threads here at Houzz that do discuss Shiloh's offerings and warranty fulfillment in depth. One of the things I've noticed is that people who went with the less expensive lines wished they had upgraded to the top Shiloh offering, and for people who did receive defective pieces, it was sometimes an issue getting satisfactory warranty service. If you are working with a reputable sales rep, hopefully they would take care of any issues you had promptly. Plenty of people have been very pleased with their Shiloh cabinetry. The tolerances on Shiloh's inset styles aren't as tight as you'd see from more expensive brands like Christopher Peacock or Kennebec according to some reviewers familiar with a wide range of brands, but for many people who want to save and yet still want that inset look, Shiloh does just fine for them. Of course, as you're aware, inset is not the only style Shiloh offers. I hope your project goes smoothly. Thanks for allowing the Houzz community to have input into your research process....See MoreWhere to find good quality bath mats?
Comments (14)I was looking at mats from linensociety.com, but they all were all saying there was a three to five week wait for shipping. They were also more expensive than expected, especially for something I can’t see in person before buying. I have no idea if the quality justifies the prices or why shipping takes that long. People are saying Company Store merchandise quality has gone downhill since they were bought by Home Depot. However, maybe the bath mats are still good enough quality and they can be purchased through Home Depot which makes purchasing a bit more convenient. If I go to Target or Ikea, at least I will be able to see and touch the mats and see exactly what I’m getting before making a purchase....See MoreRecommendations for good quality mail order bulbs
Comments (11)If anyone has an interest, you can mosey over to the garden watchdog to look at the ratings of almost every nursery business that sells to the public. By the way, Breck's bulbs got 250 positive reviews. 80 neutral, and 243 negative reviews whether it was poor customer service, low quality material received, or both. I would stay away from buying anything from Breck's! My experience with buying from any box store has been varied, sometimes the bulbs were what they were marked as, sometimes the varieties have been mixed together with other varieties, or they were the wrong variety altogether. That was usually my experience. Big box store bulb results have been poor and not at all reliable for me. Several years ago I was going through some old garden notebooks that I had put past garden information in, and found a credit slip issued to me for bulbs that were unavailable from Brent and Becky's Bulbs that season. The credit was for $38 and it was dated back to 1987 when the company was known as the Daffodil Mart. As a kind of joke I mailed it to the company and kiddingly asked if it was still applicable to my current order - or if at least they could knock off the shipping cost for me - Becky emailed me and said that everyone got such a good laugh out of it that she gave me the full credit and applied it to my current order that year. Any company that honors a credit slip that is over 30 yrs old with a different company name on the credit has my business!...See More- 20 years ago
