Sylvia, Is there anything else you might want? I have a gallon container of Lycoris squamigera & radiata mixed together. It's between half and 2/3 full. Some are damaged but the ones that did not have a substantial portion of basal plate attached I chucked in the yard. If I still have them at the time you'd be welcome to them and I could dig a couple of Hardy Amaryllis for you if not. Frank

I have a wonderful "coffee table" book by Claire Jones titled "Monet's Table." It is a pictorial history of the artists life and includes his paintings and recipes. It inspired me to do the same for my family. I am a creative artist and use that creativity in my recipes. The biggest regret I have is letting my grandparents die without getting all that history and all those recipes. My mom was NOT a cook! OMG! All she ever cooked was meatloaf, mac and cheese, and ewwwww salmon patties. OMG I forgot that dreaded liver!! I am using Word for my book. It will take me a long time, but I keep it in my head and try to photograph the family enjoying my recipes at get together s (as is pictured in the Monet book). The one they will remember fondly is cranking the ice cream in the hot summer by the swimming pool. One cranking, one sitting, everyone supervising, and then the licking of the paddle! I've got all the recipes in the book so far. We kick em up every year. I love to grow my own herbs, cure my own olives, and make my own wine from things that we grow. I will include all that in the book, and I will illustrate as much as I can with watercolor and other mediums. I like the idea you give here of sleeving the pages in plastic. Kinkos will plastic coat pages also for a price, but that is an option, and they will bind it all also. It's a project, but a fun one! Love all your ideas!! Suzi

Janet, I found out I have Type II diabetes recently. It is overwhelming until you figure out which foods are doing what to you. Personally I think you're better off not to substitute sugar for anything sugar free. In fact, you can have a little sugar, as long as you're counting carbohydrates. I've been reading that foods with a low glycemic index (Thanks to my Cooking Forum friends) are good for diabetics...like oatmeal cookies, since the whole grain slows down the rush of glucose. I'm finding that fresh fruit helps with my sweet tooth; is it helping you at all? I've figured out (by testing) that I can eat a chocolate covered caramel with an apple as a mid-day snack, and not feel deprived. It's ok to let yourself have a little bit sugar, if it's not with every meal. I always make sure to eat a little protein first. When you start testing a lot, you'll be able to see what happens to you. That's the only way to know for sure. I'm feeling a little more confident now, even though I can't eat what I used to in the amounts I did before. I'm trying to have the attitude of ''everything in moderation'' so I won't feel deprived. Even if it's three bites! My doctor recommended a book, ''Diabetes for Dummies'' which was helpful; I am absolutely determined to manage this as best I can. I started looking for recipes with some sugar but less of it; if you can find some that will count carbs for you that's helpful. I like Recipezaar's site, since you can get a complete nutritional breakdown with each recipe. Good luck; I know just how you're feeling, since I'm walkin' in your shoes!
