soap making pot?

Hello everyone I am new to making soap an i need to buy a pot can anyone tell me the best brand an where i can order off the web....stainless steel but i want to make sure its the right one to buy ( pots cost so much ) Please help Thanks

Check Kmart..Martha Stewart has them..they are reasonable...or Walmart or a discount kitchen store...

Try using a small crock pot for the petals as well, it works great, I have done the petals individually and together and both worked equally as well for me. For Christmas I did Pointsettas and Holly leaves dipped in the soap, the Holly laeaves were gorgeous,and on the top leaf in each package I was able to use a small paint brush dipped in soap and attach some of the berries, after attaching I used the brush to cover the berries in soap as well. One lady ordered 250 boxes of them, I used the most awesome Holly fragrance. On the poinsettas I used spiced cranberry. I also had tremendous success with the fall leaves, they are so pretty with all of the different colors in them, for those I used Pumpkin Spice FO Elle

Anyone make soap for X-mas gifts?

This year we've made a 10 pound cold processed recipe. We've split it into 2 x 4 pound recipes and 1 x 2 pound quantities. The first 4 pounder, we used a Coconut FO (my daughter likes it straight, no other scent with it); the second 4 pounder, we used Spearmint EO (I don't really like the Peppermint EO); and the last 2 pounds, we used Yuzu (if memory serves) using the last of that FO. This time of year we like to bring some soap over to friends homes, and leave it by one of their sinks (we dont tell them) they'll know who left them. :D It is a nice gift that is home made, and we avoid gift exchanges that way as well. Is it me, is it the soap....sigh ;-/ So after so many +++ feedback about this thing Again, I went ahead and DIY on both the Kohler AS well as my previous older Grohe. The Kohler was okay after getting it primed but soap would not come out ~fluid-smooth~ but in spurts. The Grohe took forever to get primed and after doing so, it seemed to viscious for the setup. I suppose the soap can be the root problem ....but I like this soap for handsoap .

While it would depend on the ingredient list, the off the cuff answer is "no." Soap, in its pure form, is made from base oil and lye. The glycerin is actually a by-product of the soaping process as three molecules of fat plus three molecules of lye make three molecules of soap...plus one molecule of glycerin. Glycerin itself won't react with lye as it's already a post-process material. In most lotions, the other ingredients also won't make soap when reacted with lye. I'm not sure what many of them would make...but it won't be soap...and the result won't be skin-safe in the slightest. I'd regift those bottles to other people who would be able to use them.

Save yourself a couple of bucks and find a medium to heavy walled plastic tub.
I have used a 1 gallon ice cream pail, but these are a bit too thin to use effectively, so find something a bit heavier. The walls of the tub/pail should be heavy enough so it doesn't crush/collapse when handling with one hand when loaded with raw soap.
The best tubs I find are the ones that the bulk oils come in like palm, palm kernel or I would think coconut oils; these can be found lying around some of the soap supply stores if you have'm.

Do not think that this hobby requires new equipment in the beginning or even at all.
