There are tons of low-fat recipe web sites...Just go to a search engine and type in "Low-fat recipes".
I am currently working on a collection of tried and tasty low-fat recipes for folks that have high cholesterol.....but it will probably take me about a kazillion years to get it together....lol

I have been saving copies of all my labs since '95. (Just a few until the past few years.) I first started because my HDL and LDL (good/bad) looked strange. My good was very high and bad was a little low compared to the normal range. But it turned out to be my normal accurate pattern of my cholesterol readings based on several over the years. Added together with my triglycerides they seem high, but the ratio always brings me back down to the low risk category. Do you keep yours? With numbers like yours, it would be inspiring to see the progress. And keep motivation. Really nice work.

Thanks guy/gals! That pepper relish and the cantaloup sounds yummy! Here's what I have, now mind these are OLD recipes so they aren't written in cookbook format: Yellow cantaloupes or musk- Sugar melonsWater Select the large yellow variety of cantaloupe or the old-fashioned muskmelons when they are beginning to turn a little yellow in ripening. Peel the thin outer rind, and cut a very thin slice next the seeds; cut the sections in pieces one inch thick, and put them into a preserving pan with six pounds of sugar to ten pounds of fruit. Add one-half gallon of water, cover and boil until the melon becomes clear and transparent. Remove the cover and boil until the syrup is thick. Seal in jars. ====================================== Spiced Fruits: To eight pounds of fruit allow four pounds of sugar, one pint of good vinegar, one table-spoonful of ground cinnamon, one tablespoonful of ground allspice, one tablespoonful of ground ginger, one teaspoonful of ground mace, one teaspoonful of ground cloves, one tablespoonful of grated nutmeg and six crushed bay leaves; mix the spices, put them in four muslin bags and tie them loosely. Boil the sugar and the vinegar for five minutes, add the spices and the fruit and cook until the fruit is tender. Soft fruit must not remain long on the fire. Remove from the fire and cool. Next morning lift the fruit with a skimmer and put it into glass or stone jars. Boil the syrup, pour it over the fruit and let cool; do this for nine mornings. This recipe will answer for pears, peaches, apples, currants, apricots, watermelon rind, citron melon and cantaloupes. Rather than doing it for nine mornings, I would process it hot in the waterbath for whatever time your cookbook says to do the particular fruits, LOL! ====================================== Here's one that sounds more modern! CANTALOUPE OR MUSKMELON PRESERVES The melons should be ripe but firm. The rind is removed and the firm pulp is cut into pieces of desired size and shape. The prepared material is weighed and ~ pound of sugar is allowed for each pound of melon. The melon and sugar are packed in alternate layers and allowed to stand for 24 hours. At the end of this period the juice from one small lemon per pound of melon is added and the materials are set over a slow fire. Slow boiling is maintained until the syrup sheets or flakes from the stirring spoon. The hot preserve is filled into clean jars and is processed in the water bath for 2 or 3 minutes. Steph

Hey, Karin- Cool to hear from one of the comrades from over there. I like your tile solution. It's something I might do in the large family room, which also has the old, not-to-code paneling and has seen some occasional water. The most troublesome seepage wall might be a good candidate for this treatement. Thankfully, we've had no water for 7 years and counting. Still, I expect something to happen some day. This year was the biggest test -- so much water, so little sun, the farmers are still harvesting. They were in the fields right up to the current snow storm. All that rain, second highest in record, and no moisture in basement. Still I expect human error or mechanical malfunction at some point! Hence our attempts to choose flooring and wall treatments wisely. When we dry-walled in this bedroom, we asked for extra moisture "protection". The dry wall is slightly higher off the concrete than normal and has some sort of water repellent? It doesn't sound like a perfect solution, so I keep my fingers crossed. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but we did the initial work on this room 2 years ago. It remains empty with the bare concrete floor...My motivation is that I need a guest room. My parents used to visit and stay in a hotel. Dad died last April, and it just seems totally wrong that I don't have a room suitable for my mom to stay in. And thanks for the wallpaper border idea. I like that. And, yes, it would help with the color chase. I think I'd like the irises on the wall or walls, but not the bed cover. Have the irises be irises on the wall, but only let them show elsewhere through color touches or very small details to be discovered here and there. So I think the bedspread should be something solid, maybe even a texture...crochet...not sure what I'm thinking of here, but I'll know it when I find it. And, Jant, I'm interested in your synthetic sisal suggestion. Would it give the warmth / comfort of carpet? I'll put it on my "consider" list... Thank you to everyone. Finally, I feel as though my ideas are connecting and coming together. I'll probably borrow some textures and colors from this room to help with the sm guest bath just across the hall. That just leaves the family room...The biggest questions there are the flooring and the fireplace, which is the room's main focal point. All of these responses are very helpful. Thanks again. I have three Aladdin Light Lifts for a 17 foot ceiling. The fixtures are about 40 lbs each, though they have lifts that can handle much more, or less. Installation was not complicated, but having adequate work room in the attic immediately above was certainly nice.

Salmon and Tuna have the good cholestrol that is good for your heart and is recommended to eat when you have High cholestrol. Do a search on the net for any grilled recipes or other recipes with these 2 fish in them.

I found a great, easy to make cake recipe. One box of cake mix (I have used chocolate and spice). Add one 15 oz. can pumpkin and 1/2 cup water. Mix. Spray a 9x13 cake pan with Pam. Bake at 350 for 30-35 min. It sounds weird, but it's really good and low fat.

Cholestrol is found mostly in meats. Do not eat them and your cholestrol levels will go down. Oils are not good for you and they are in meats, but they are also in many other things. Read lables or better yet don't buy anything in a box. I recently did this and after losing 10 pounds my cholestrol went down 49 points. I now eat meat twice a week only and use 'spray' oil if needed. A protein substitue is beans with a grain and nuts but nuts have high oil. Eat them sparingly. Find a health food store that has bulk items and find brown rice, whole barley. wheatberries, whole rye, and whole oats. Any of these with beans are a great protein. Eat veggies and fruits and no refined sugars or white flours. You will be thin and healthy and everyone will *hate* you for it!!! Make this a lifelong eating regime....you can do it. I was recently told I have high cholesterol and low blood sugar and to go on a low-fat diet. Is there any type diet that combines all these in one for weight reduction also? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Eat oats. This grain has been proven to help lower cholesterol. I eat oatmeal, oat bran, and cheerios with skim milk, without sugar. If you use skim milk instead of water to make the oatmeal and oat bran cereal, you don't need sugar. I add fruit like strawberries and blueberries. Avoid dried fruit; it is concentrated sugar. Eat bananas sparingly; they are high sugar.

Eat fish like I mentioned above. It is highly recommended for anyone with high cholestrol. It has high fish oil. High fish oil has the good cholestrol. The good cholestrol fight the bad cholestrol. Mackreal has the most fish oil in it. Fish with this type of oil is highly recommended by doctors for patients that have high cholestrol. I love salmon that is grilled.
