FYI: There's a WIP (work in progress) by Tex Norwood and others notable plumerians to catalog photos and descriptions - see plumeriaid.com. He's also put together a community-driven plumeria portal (also WIP) at plumeriasales.com, which includes sales, trades, events, docs, etc. Much of this is being driven by several Facebook groups (both public and hidden). As always, Laura, thanks for the kind words, and hope to see you out here again some day. In the interest of being a good end user, it's useful to define requirements before designing the solution (ha- too many years in high tech). What do I want to accomplish? 1 - from the description and photos, decide if I interested 2 - prevent duplicates due to AKAs or 'very similar' 3 - decide if it is suitable to my growing conditions 4 - make recommendations 5 - ID unknowns (with usual caveats) 6 - understand risks (e.g. BT, bud drop, vitality) Flower description - PSA has certainly defined the language and process, as have the Oz folks. However, this applies to the 'One True Bloom'. There's certainly more that can be added, but it does provide an excellent vetted baseline for what the flower should look like. ID an unknown - providing a best-guess of a named variety requires much more info: back of bloom, leaf, bark color, etc. That's where we need much more baseline info. Add to that the zillions of unnamed plants. However, if you purchase from a reputable dealer / hobbyist, there's a good chance it was a named variety, and can be ID'd. To root or not to root: which varieties should / must be grafted, and which ones make good graft hosts. Nice to know info: 'parentage' so when getting seeds I know which produced winners; 'source' for tracking down a rare plant or to give credit for some awesome new ones. I think it would be very cool to be able to bring up photos of known seedlings. Permutations - This is a biggie: whether regional, heat/cold related, humidity, it's easy to see that blooms can look completely different due to growing conditions. Capture that info, it's very useful. This is my personal axe to grind, and why each of my plants gets 3 bloom cycles to prove itself. If my notes say 'needs heat', I don't even get the plant. The list Laura refers to is a tracking file: # tips, if it bloomed, # inflos, BT, source, and so on. At the end of every year, I ruthlessly ponder, thin the herd and send selected plants to a new (usually warmer) home. BTW, if anyone wants a copy of my notes, just drop me a pm. irun5k et al: I'm chatting with a few non-GWers to gauge both the level of interest, feasibility and willingness to contribute (important!). Love your comments. ivysmon: thanks for unleasing this discussion, and to answer your original question, here's my notes, and note the contradictions due to growing conditions... Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, but on my third year of plumerias. We went to the show last year and this year. Since we are kinda new, we aren't to picky about which one/type yet so we went on Sunday at 2:00, so there was only two hours left of the show. Let me tell you last year there was plenty to pick from, this year, there was almost nothing left! JJ was the only one who had quite a few left. So that being said a couple vendors were offering to make a deal with the couple that they had left. My husband and I each went with $50.00 to spend, of course we brought the checkbook just in case!! Right away my husband struck a pretty good deal with two of the larger plants that were outside on the patio. The seller marked them both down right away for a total of 45.00 for both, one white and yellow, one yellow and white, both with current inflows and both having an inflow about to open! So then it's my turn, we have plenty that are one to two years old, I kinda wanted one larger one and no more white and yellow. I already have three JJ's... but they do seem to be my strongest plants so why not another one, again a lot of small ones, a couple larger ones for $100, but that over my budget.. so I was going to settle for one for $40.00, I don't even remember what is was, and John saw me and said, no don't get that one, take this one, it was a Rio, with an inflow about to bloom, it was marked $55.00, but he marked it down to $40.00. Still white, but has colored edges, he showed me in the catalog. So I was happy. Then I came across the Aztec Gold, I loved the smell, but they only had a little one left, but the vendor automatically took $5.00 off for me. So for going at the last minute we are very happy with our afternoon at the sale. We left at exactly 100 with a good group of plants. The two on the left are the ones my husband got for a total of 45.00, the one in the back is a JJ Divine for my mother in law, she loves mine, the little one in the front is the Aztec Gold, and the one on the right is the JJ Rio!

Hello Everyone!!! Hi Manuel.. Nice to see you post!! Sounds like you are having an awesome summer with all of your beauties!! Thanks for the list of things to come. I can't wait to see Makaha Sunn!! Mine is looking like it will be another year before it opens, but it is healthy so I am glad of that. My Kapalua is doing well and it still has some blooms trying to open, so hopefully with this cool weather it will still have some good color!! It is very exciting to see!!! Simi.. They are all so healthy and still holding that color, but lucky you.. Living in Cali... Nice!! Rox.. Beautiful bloom!!! Here is a late JJ Orange that is opening for me. It has a huge set of blooms, but I have seen a color change in just a few days.. So sad to see what these cooler temps can do. Here is a pic of the JJ Orange!! Night everyone!! Laura

(BTW Do any of the Canning Campers recognize that red apron? Also I mailed that box - cheaper than paying United to take it on the plane, and probably better treated by FedEx. I know its a BIG box, but I also know how much work goes into hostessing! ) Karen had arranged for three of us (not DS #1) to go on a duck hunt the morning after we arrived, holding real guns and shooting real birds. Ive gone target shooting before, but I was really looking forward to duck gumbo! We got to Walmart to purchase one day hunting licenses - ooops - $200 EACH. On to Plan B, which was our touring around with Karen, keeping her out of the kitchen, LOL. I have to say that the Huevos Rancheros, for our first breakfast, were delicious. DS #2, my PICKY kid, ate the entire plate. Karen will share the link for the recipe, my brain didn't retain it. I didn't get a picture of everything plated, I thought someone did, ACK! This is the ranchera sauce. Loved it. The second morning she made us grits with smoked gouda and scrambled eggs. I have been dying to try properly prepared Southern grits instead of guessing from a recipe! Once again, PICKY DS #2 ate them all (I got his scrambled eggs). Now I have an idea how to proceed in my own kitchen ! Grits and eggs: Dinner photos from the Mediterranean restaurant: Lots of fish dinners! I cant remember the names! Three fish dinners: DS #1 and I had duck - Ive been getting used to it, DS #1 discovered he loves it, LOL DS #2 had a ribeye. Not a fish kid. Dessert! Dessert! Grand Marinier (sp?) souffle MLCs! (DS #2 is following my tradition of reaching fingers in the photos, no polish sorry) Karens home is absolutely beautiful and guest-friendly. Hey I got to sleep in the same bed as Sharon and Clive, LOL. I wanted to sit out on the porch where Peppi sat and enjoy the river view but it was raining. My only complaint is I didnt get to spend enough alone time with Karen. Come on out to California!
