Favorite Fragrances

Hi,

I am new to soap and lotion making, and am wondering what some of your favorite fragrances are? I don't have much experience with knowing what fragrances are "true" to their description, and I'm hesitant to spend a ton of money on samples or small quantities I'll end up never using.

I tend to like light, fresh scents, as well as citrus and vanilla.

I love lavender, eucalyptus, spearmint and sweet orange. I have found that you can get essential oils for those, that smell quite authentic. A couple of seller I use are Camden-Grey and BrambleBerry.

Good Quality Suppliers are the key to a great quality fragrance oil.
Have you read some of the threads on this forum?
I've listed several great companies to deal with.

I love, LOVE! Copper Canyon Daisies! I can be weeding in a bed close to them and get the scent wafting over me and I am like one of those cats with catnip! I want to just WALLOW in it! LOL Also love lantana, altho it doesn't affect me the same way. The Banana shrub is growing and doing very well in a yard in Victoria, Texas. I have permission to go there to take some cuttings in that garden this week, and that is one plant that is on my list to snip. It is growing in regular old alkaline clay soil, watered daily with regular old city water, with a ph up to THERE! Amazing! This is a good thread. Thanks for bumping it up. Janie

What is your favorite, not too strong, perfume/fragrance?

I sort of envy people who find a scent that works for them and becomes their "signature" scent. I rarely wear any perfume, only because I don't think of it, but a good friend just gave me Jo Malone's grapefruit perfume for my birthday. I love it! I've been wearing it every day. I also have Chanel Allure, and Sarah Jessica Parker's first perfume (I think she may have come out with another one after the one I have, not sure). I also have a good "everyday" light spray called Fresh Cotton? or something like that, from Bath & Body Works. I like it in the summer when you just want a spray of something light.

Roses that always have fragrance

I'm about to throw in the towel in defeat for the season after repeated deer attacks--the beasts seem to prefer perfumed roses, I believe, because the perfume seems to shout out "hey, deer, there's something delicious over here!" If the roses only knew they were their own worst enemies. There are exceptions, of course, when a huge petal stuffed non smeller also becomes the deer's favorite (Caramel Antique). The best smellers in my garden seem to be: Frederic Mistral (offspring of The McCartney Rose--does that surprise you, Carol?) Evelyn (the deer's A-1 favorite, blast them) Munstead Wood (deer ice cream) Augusta Luise Brother Cadfael (blooms too high up for deer this time of year-hahaha) Young Lycidas (deer fudge) Angel Face (deer candy) Ebb Tide Eglantyne The Prince (deer love this one) and not bad in the perfume department-- (deer finally sampled this one yesterday, eating the entire bouquet off the end of a tall candelabra) Golden Celebration And others, primarily Austins

Hello Kimberly,
Here are some good FOs : Energy (Brambleberry's) sort of grapefruitie and fresh; Yuzu (Oregon Trail's) sort of orangey/mandrin based (best seller), and Ocean Rain (Brambleberry's) unisex scent good in the shower. How 'bout some flowers? Lilac (Brambleberry's) I couldn't tell the diff between the FO and the flower when I smelled them back to back; Freesia, also known as Frangiponi, Hawaiian flower I believe) is also a good one. Be careful when CPing white flowarls and make sure that you bring these to trace at a low (body temperature) and they probably won't seize on you. Here's a tip, spices will also cause trouble, so soaping on the cool side and make sure that you have everything ready in case the soap wants to turnt to stone and you have to move quickly to pour.

Our Jasmine is very popular following that scent is Lavender, Green Tea and then Lemongrass. We also have Cucumber Melon and Vanilla. We have a mix of floral, herbal and fruit as you can see. People like that sort of variety.
