Siding for south Florida wood framed house
Comments (4)Ignore what people say. That house has been there since 1937 so I would say it was built correctly. We lived there for over 20 years and went through Andrew and so was your house!!! We live in North Central Florida now and what is Popular here is Hardy Board. It is probably made of the fiber cement although I don't know for sure. It's better than wood but looks just like wood planks. It has the grain and everything. If you are not keeping to the historic requirements I think this is a great option for you. We don't have much stucco up here but we do have LOTS of Hardy Board. Check it out!...See MoreStrengthening the wood of woody plants
Comments (11)Actually, ken's comment is entirely accurate. Wood will strengthen with age and maturity. Or in his words, "tree time". And it doesn't make any difference if a dwarf selection or something a lot larger growing. It is pretty easy to see on most woody plants - the youngest, newest growth will be very green and flexible and often unable to support its own weight. As that new growth ages in subsequent years, it loses the greenness (ripens) and becomes less flexible and more rigid and 'stronger'. And he is also correct that this is not a function of fertilization. Unnecessary fertilization generally stimulates more lush or flexible growth, not stronger....See MoreTimber framed house - paint all the wood?
Comments (13)We had a Northern Energy post and beam home. All the wood was “pickled”…an 80’s term for whitewash, I guess. It was light and bright with wide plank pine floors….but on Cape Cod, over looking the water. This house you are showing us looks Mediterranean or Southwest, so I don’t think I would paint the structural beams. I would paint the trim…I even know what white I would use..B.M. November Rain in semi-gloss and the walls the same but in eggshell. I think painting the trim would make a big difference....See Moredoes my parents barn frame house need a pergola? or something else?
Comments (9)HI -- Being that it is a barn style house I think having some wood post and beam structures added to the entrance , the side patio ,and a little over the garage doors . It would be a fitting feature .Find an Architect that works with post and beam and have a mock up done to see what it would look like . This house looks wonderful ....See More- 10 years ago
