Oh Jill! That is perfect! I just have to order one for next year since Mardi Gras is just a few days away. Did you stumble upon that or were you looking? Thanks so much for the link.

Magi--
I found a link to the mold site that I posted under "Molds Galore" here. I think I looked at every page there was LOL! I remembered you were looking for something like that.

Did I mention that I was going to try and embed some strands of beads into a bar of soap? Well I don't have a big enough mold to accommodate the beads my mom sent :-( But I saw a site where they used Mardi Gras beads as a mosaic medium...hmmm! Mom sent me 12 strands of beads--I think I can do something with them LOL.

I've just received a suggestion from a former art teacher, and it's so promising, I just have to share! She said, and I quote: "the best (and easiest) way to form a clay mask is over wadded up newspaper. You can just crumple it up and lay the slab over it or make a shape by rolling and forming the paper and then taping it. Slab can be worked on while over the mold or flat. Leave slab over your paper mold until ready to fire. Have fun!" Why didn't I think of that? I thought of paper mache, but slightly damp wadded newspaper just may do the trick with a minimum of fuss and mess. Plus, I think that since I bake on paper (trays and box forms) all the time, if I let the paper dry enough I can leave it right on the form to bake it without worry about what effects steam could have. I love this PLACE!! Lamb

I've got the Extreme Cake Challenge rerun on FoodTV right now... Duff and cohorts from Charm City Cakes are judges so fireworks and "over the top" are the goal. Not my favorite type of cake construction, although I appreciate the talent and techniques required. I really love to watch the cake challenges of more delicate designs as your daughter has fabulously done with these two cakes. Her Teapot presentation reminds me of one FoodTV cake challenge where participants had to make cakes based on a china pattern. I can almost see the stitched edging on that linen napkin! Simply amazing. She should be proud of her art as her mother surely is. What talent, perseverance and patience. Congratulations to both of you!

Thanks Magi! The "horsey" soaps are going to a consignment shop that sells only equestrian wear and other odds and ends that are horse related. We just purchased my daughter's 1st saddleseat suit from this lady and while we were there I noticed some very poorly made soaps there, (I'm sorry to who ever did them but they were awful :() I guess it was some lady from the west coast. Anyway, in our conversation she said she'd love me to bring some in sooooooooo... this will be my first try at public selling! The rest were made just because for now but I do want to start making Mother's Day baskets. One of my other daughters (there are 4 in all) came down today and wiped me out! LOL I love it though, makes me happy that I can still make things for them that they love. I'm so glad I inspired you! Thanks!

LOL, sleevendog, I like that. I do occasionally eat tongue, we used to have it for sandwiches. It was a bit disconcerting, though, to open the refrigerator door and see a big cow tongue, whole and chilled on a plate. I usually save them now for Peppi, because her Dad is very fond of them, whereas we usually just add them to sausage. jakkom, I'm going to find that book! suzieque, I was not trying to insult or ridicule you. I only pointed out that if food was not spoiled when it was frozen it would be still safe, as long as it remains frozen, for years, decades even. It just won't taste good anymore. The USDA agrees with me, so that's not just my opinion. I wasn't even thinking of your post when I laughed at 2manydiversions, it just tickled my funny bone, thinking of grown people rolling around in the herb garden. Still does. (snicker) And, in other news, we had the wings for supper tonight. I baked them, Elery gamely took a bite and said they tasted fine. He did seem somewhat surprised. I sauced them and he and the dogs had them for supper. I'm not a fan of wings since I don't like chicken skin, so I let them have them. 8 chicken wings isn't really all that much to eat for a man and two dogs. And a big thank you to my good friend Peppi, who encouraged me to wrap the chicken in produce bags before I vacuum sealed it, to keep the liquid from interfering with the seal. It stayed nicely sealed and I think the double wrap helped keep it from being freezer burned. Annie

Beads as a mosaic medium? Do tell me more! We went to a parade last night and came home with bags of the stuff. I usually throw them away when my kids aren't looking- LOL! Seriously, though, I'm looking to do some stepping stones for a garden path and you have peaked my interest in using beads to embed in them for a mosaic look. So, if you know the site, let me know!

Magi--Here's the link to the Mardi Gras Bead Mosaic Artist. I'm pretty sure I found the link over at the Garden Junk forum. It's a very cool site.

They are really neat - but they don't tell me how to do it! I guess that's his secret, but I'm going to surf around and figure out how. I think it would look sooooo cool on stepping stones for my garden.

Uh, oh, am I developing a new obsession?

Magi-
I think you could just lay down some cement (or whatever base you want) and then just press the beads in...or put some glue down first, then your beads and then cover w/your grout and wipe down. I'm not sure how deep the color goes on my plastic beads - I am probably going to do a wall hanging (for the garden) with mine.

You can find me at Johnson Beach State Park (Perdido Key) sometime this summer...that is my all-time favorite beach and I spent 10 yrs on the Jersey shore!
