Oh I think that pretty light blue they use on porch roofs would be so pretty with your brick. Though I also think just usint tung oil on it would look beautiful too. You have a lovely home Judie.

I think if you see it looking up driving or walking by I'd stick with white... but I might be tempted to do a pale aqua. Nice house!

I think it looks lovely as natural wood, but if you must paint it, I would use white.

I could be wrong, but I think of blue porch ceilings on less formal homes.

Pale blue or pale green. I have neighbors with both (neighborhood of 100+ year old homes). Of course the traditional is blue, but there is something very wonderful about the green. I like that it's unexpected.

I am thinking white, not feeling the "haint" blue ceiling on your formal house. Beautiful entry by the way!

I painted both my porches with the "haint" blue and they look fantastic. A sort of old Charleston feel since my house is an historical cottage style in the South but concerned how it would look on a formal house, you might just want white in that case.

We also painted our back porch and outdoor balcony ceilings with a pale blue, Sherwin Williams "Atmosphere." This isn't the best picture, but the only one we have, so hope it will give you an idea. This was from almost two years ago, when we first built the house.

Thanks for all of your suggestions and pic. I would like to keep it natural but there was some water damage and pieces were fixed and/or replaced, I think painting is the only option because of stains. I'm still up in the air about white or blue though. It is a rather formal front entry so the white might be best, but I love the look of the blue???

judiegal - do you have closeups of the damage? I still like the natural if you can blend the repairs in.

I think either would be fine but I think I would paint it blue and plant more blue hydranas in front of your porch/landing. Black chandy to tie in with railing.

For our porch ceiling, we chose blue because it looked beautiful when viewed from the foyer through the transom. Take a look at your ceiling from that perspective to help with your choice.

First off, I love your home and the entry is stunning and is the focal point.

IMO the robin's egg blue ceiling is for a more casual home and yours is quite formal.

If it were me I would stay with the natural wood or white, either would be fabulous.

New homes don't compare to these older homes. How old is your house if you don't mind me asking?

newdawn-Our home is 23 years old, my DH built it to look like an Italian Villa. Here is a pic of the back.

It's hot here today, I will just put on my suit and grab a towel be right over! Wow, it does look like a villa! just wow.

I learned in Key west that people painted the ceilings blue to discourage bees nesting in the corners. Just a heads up!
