What trade handles water in a crawlspace?

I am buying a house that was very recently inspected. The inspection showed that water was collecting under a corner of the house. Luckily, there is no real damage other than a dusting of mold on some joists. I will obviously need to get this fixed. The house is not in a wet area and the water table is well below the ground level so I assume water diversion is the answer. What trade handles this kind of thing? What category do I look up in the yellow pages for this kind of work? Also - any experiences you can share with this issue would be appreciated!

Before you can determine what trade handles the problem you will need to identify the source of the water.

If its over a crawlspace it could be ground water which could be corrected by a landscaping contractor or a general contractor, but it also could be indicating a leaking water or drain line and would require a plumber..

On the morning after the tornadoes hit Atlanta, I drove over to East Atlanta with some neighbors for GGG's church plant sale, which had been cancelled. From there we went to her house to make sure she was ok. I've never seen such a frightening scene of devastation and destruction. In the midst of the chaos stood GGG's beautiful purple house, virtually untouched, but the implications were heartstopping. I would like to suggest that instead of our regular spring plant trade on April 19th, we volunteer to meet at GGG's house for a cleanup day of her backyard. Anyone who wants to bring plants to trade with each other could still do that, but I think it would be really great if we got together to pitch in and help with whatever is ready to be done in GGG's yard at that time. I would imagine that might be cutting up felled trees and branches, moving soil and rocks around, rebuilding garden beds, planting new trees and shrubs, for example. Those who are unable to do heavy work could offer moral support and carry glasses of sweet iced tea to the workers. I have not mentioned this to Glynis. But if she's agreable and thinks it would be helpful, what would everyone else think?

I'm not discounting needing RO for an iron/manganese problem (more likely if your supply is a well or other groundwater). But there's a whole industry out there to cater to folks like plllog and ttmatsu, for whom essentially a Brita pitcher isn't good enough, and who have money to burn ("just in case"). Not to mention that your public water supply is ridiculously more regulated/monitored than any given bottled water supplier. fhmiller- There are a lot of different vendors who'll sell you filter systems that have a sediment filter and carbon. They vary in ease of changing filters, but generally, they're going to have proprietary connections or filters. That locks you into buying replacements from them (the egregious example is the GE fridge filter, which is $40 and probably holds $0.50 worth of materials). If you aren't shy, you could get just a filter housing or 2 and double-open-end cartridges for sediment and carbon. You'll have to put fittings together and hook it up yourself, but you'll have a much broader range of sources for replacement cartridges. My office is switching from bottled water coolers to ones that filter tap water and heat/chill. Honestly, I'm not sure what dummy got the bottled water, since it was policy for many years that we're in the business, so we drink our clients' water. But, buying these chillers will pay for itself in about a year, as we end our $200/mo bottled water habit. I suppose that I need some help determining where the water is coming from too, then. There is no evidence of a leak from the house plumbing and there are indications of seepage from outside the house perimeter. Water stains on the cinder block crawlspace walls and a wee bit of efflorescence, specifically. The ground does slope ever so slightly towards the affected corner of the house. The front of the property is several inches higher than the back and due to the placement of a driveway, regrading would produce an awkward result, if it is even possible at all. I have been told by a home inspector that trenching with a sump pump may be a course of action. So I can call a landscaper to look at the yard drainage? I assumed they only dealt with aesthetics and vegetation health. Who would put in a sump pump if the landscaping isn't effective? Thanks for the replies.

Call a landscaper, If they don't specifically deal with your problem, they will know who does, and will point you in the right direction.

I was looking for similar company. I spent last week looking for a company that would come to inspect and fix the air ducts under crawlspace. I found a company that specializes in attic and crawlspace cleanup. They cleanup water damage, mold, animal damage, etc. I'm not sure which category they'll be in, but I got the name/phone number from a heating company. You may try searching attic/crawlspace cleanup company. Cleanup crawlspace and attic seems to be very specialized service and they're the only company in the area. Good luck!
