Roof 'wear' question

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum..

I'm in NJ, Burlington County and have noticed that some roofs here (not sure if it's other counties) have what look like black marks on them.

I never noticed this in North Jersey, but have seen it since I've been down here.. I've looked around trying to find a common with the roofs.. like trees & sap, sun, shade and so far can't see any commons. This not only happens on dark roofs but light ones too.

When I moved down here, story was that the planes from the military base were dumping the fuel before landing, and what we see on the roofs are the result of that.. now, I find this hard to believe that planes dump fuel.. but that's what it looks like on the roof.

I wish I had a picture. I can probably get one if needed.

Wonder if it's a chemical in the roof that is bleeding out?
