i'd go with something in a contrasting color (blue/gray/greenish) with accents of red. i'm thinking slate mosaics or thin long tiles would be nice.

i think those type of tiles will work beautifully with your loft style--the brick, timbers, and slightly 'urban' feel. it'll also make the red tones 'pop' because you'll give them something to work against.

I like the long thin slate tiles Ed posted. But, I'm also thinking that Jodi_in_so_california's (something like that), slate tile with glass inserts would be a good option too.

You want a complementary colour that would enhance the appliances, not scream red, red, red!

Jodi's backsplash is the first thing I thought of. I think it would be gorgeous in your kitchen. I love the red in your kitchen, but I think a red backsplash would be too much.

I really really thank you guys. Give me a couple hours and I'll upload the rest of my kitchen. I love Jody's backsplash a lot; what I am afraid of though is we will have too much of the brick look (the whole interior is brick).

I would look at Oceanside Tile. This company has beautiful glass and stone tiles. I can think of several which would go beautifully with your so chic kitchen! Depends on the look you want--very urban, transitional or more relaxed, country look.

I'm attaching a link to a mosaic that cate1337 posted (search this forum for "cate backsplash") about a month or so ago. Some of the khaki/red might work for you. I agree with the other posters that too much red will be, well, too much, and it would clash with/overpower your reddish cabinets and brick; however, a few red tiles work very well.

Oceanside Tile has gorgeous stuff, albeit pricey.

Several people on this forum have recommended Susan Jablon.

I loved some of the pictures that were posted. Here's a picture of the rest of my house.

The problem with the overwhelming reds is I don't want it to scream RED! After all, as you see, a lot of my house is red. Then we've got the brown brick. I don't want it to be too matchy-matchy and overwhelming color-schemed. Like some posters said, I'd like it to be more subtle and blend.

I really like some of the stuff posted. How much is Oceanside per Sq ft. I'm looking to stay within 20 bucks a sq ft.

I'd probably go with something along the lines of your window trim -- a yellow toned something or other. Kind of a neutral. Might consider painting it yellow and then putting clear glass mosaic over it, to add a bit of a more contemporary edge.

I would go with grays or blues to cool things off a bit.

I would do something like pic in the link below, maybe not exactly this, but something that complimented the reds and the brick and the mortar, so your cabinets and red accessories stood out. It's between $7.50 and 9.50 a square foot.

So what do you guys think about these options. I am going for a really urban/contemporay look. I definitely trying to stay away from too much red now that I've got your opinions--I agree. I also don't want to do the too brown theme so I can avoid the matchy-matchy stuff.

i don't like any of those. go with something where the dominant color is a gray-blue, like a slate, but that has some reddish-brown or straight red accents.

that's the color palette that will serve your space the best.

I think you'll find those to be too red. What about black? Or is there another color in your countertops you could draw from? I liked the tile bmore picked too.

Black would be too dark.

I really appreciate the advice; I am just having a hard time envisioning slate colors with some red. I still want to stick to my original vision of glass tile mosaic. I feel like anything that closely resembles brick (like some of the very helpful posters have given) would just clash with the exposed brick which is everywhere.

You might not NEED the extra texture from a tile. Have you considered a sheet of something solid?

What about stainless? Would it be too much metal?

A few GWers have done sheets of glass that look fabulous and modern (and easy to clean I think).

I liked your second option. It has the black that ties in your appliances and the copper colored tiles along with splashes of red. I love red and in a glass it is not as strong.

Here's an example of a S.S. backsplash with cherry cabinets. I like the coolness of the S.S. with the reds/warmth of the cherry.
