I suggest to aways get a sample or swatch of the fabric before making the actual purchase. A 100% cotton canvas is usually stiffer than a 100% cotton duck, no matter what the weight is. Softer the fabric the better it will feel.

The choice of style is yours, but patterns of different colors hide stains and soil much more than solid colors, especially white. I also encourage you to stay away from 100% cotton. It stains easily and cleans with difficulty. Some stains will just NOT come out. Dark colors in 100% cotton fade readily in sun and wear, and bleed dye. In dark colors, the (relatively) short fiber length causes cotton to fibrillate, giving a frosted appearance with wear. If you want to go with a denim/duck, get one with a good percentage of polyester. (I professionally clean upholstery, specializing in spot stains, usually food and body fluids). Would I buy a white slip cover? No. Also avoid chenille, particularly rayon. It will not tolerate any contact with water without irreversibly damaging the look of the fabric.

babs I don't have window treatments because the window is boxed in on the sides and top, otherwise I would. As for color for panels, Red gave you some great options. Also I'd have no problem personally with using white panels - I like seeing a white that matches the white of my trim, not a cream or off white (which could look dirty in comparison) or a color, whether it's matching the wall color or something else. Red I can't find my receipt for the fabric but did find the receipt for the slipcover work and it says coverlets. Could be that they were really bedspreads which offer a lot more fabric and it was just written as coverlet but I don't really remember anymore. I know it wasn't 2 per chair because I didn't buy 4. The man who did the work did a fabulous job, but unfortunately has disappeared into the night :-( kswl thank you - I think the geometric makes it special - cleaner, less fussy.

My idea of a slip cover is more permanent, since I glued the pieces directly to the chair~the 'experiment' was done on a $10 flea market chair. I couldn't believe how well it turned out, and even withstood my then teenage grandson's antics and slouching, which pulled on the fabric. To my surprise, nothing ever ripped! For fabric, I used a sage green/ivory check tablecloth(heavier weave)purchased at Target~I bought 2 of the largest rectangular size, on sale no less, to make sure I had enough 'fabric'. Gave the chair away when I moved to Tx, with not a rip or tear. I made the welting using hot glue also, placed glued side down. Not as professional as a $500/$600 job, but it worked for me. I also did a Begere style chair I purchased at an auction for almost next to nothing. I still have it in a bedroom. I think this works well on chairs(or a sofa!)that isn't used heavily and on a daily basis. A bedroom chair being a perfect example. Am now considering doing my DR chairs since the seats/back are not removable, or they don't look to be. Am having my son take a closer look to find where they might be screwed together. What can be done with a glue gun is amazing, and time consuming, though not as much as slips for sure. Burns are one of the hazards! ;)
